In 2014 as a junior in college, I was roped into a two-month summer trip to Istanbul, Turkey. Growing up loving travel but struggling with history, I had no clue what I was getting into—I couldn’t even show you Turkey on a map. So it came as a complete surprise that 60 days in this city would make me more familiar with it than my own hometown and grow a love I didn’t know was possible.
I could never up all I learned and love about Istanbul, but for cities like this that I know well it’s pretty easy to identify the places I would revisit today if I could, and that’s why I’m starting my #khowdozen Lists. Consider this a starting place for how to engage with Istanbul as a first-time visitor; perhaps you could even squeeze these twelve experiences into a long layover! This isn’t a list of the top sites or best fine dining; it’s the honest opinion of a girl who spent two months in the simple Kadikoy neighborhood and grew to love the Turkish people and the ways they connect, eat, and explore their beloved city.

This is a living map, which means that anytime we find another great spot for a group, we'll add it to this list & you'll automatically get the update! It comes with an interactive map too!

New York City is chock-full of restaurants with various cuisines from around the world. With so many places to eat, you may find yourself struggling to make a decision about where to grab a bite.
Are you in the mood for Mexican food? Italian? Indian? Japanese? If you’re vegan or just love plant-based food, you can choose from any of the above cuisines, too. New York restaurants know that vegan isn’t one size fits all, which is why their restaurants are based on your food palate and preferred dining experience, as opposed to just excluding meat from their menus.

I KNOW this is a hot take, and I swear I love Germany with all my heart, but Belgium has the best beer hands down. Not to mention the frites (fries), the chocolate, and the waffles. I have been to many a European city and my tastebuds were happiest in Belgium by far. As an ode to the country (and hopefully as a way to convince you to add Belgium to your next trip), I've created this guide of some of my favorite bars & restaurants I tried throughout the country!
For my plant-based besties out there: Many of these places offer vegan options. Some of them are 100% vegetarian or vegan, or have a separate menu catering to those diets. I always struggle when traveling to places with very meat-heavy traditional cuisine because I want to participate in the culture while honoring my diet. Belgium was one of the BEST countries when it came to catering to my needs. Not only did they offer plant-based food, I was able to find plant-based versions of the traditional food (this is really hard sometimes!). You can enjoy the local flavor guilt-free!
This guide includes places in Brussels, Ghent, & Antwerp.
Belgium is one of my favorite countries. If you'd like a personalized guide to Belgium or want to chat about your upcoming European adventure, check out my travel services! I work with you 1-on-1 to create the trip of a lifetime. Feel free to email me with any questions at autumnmarietravels@gmail.com.

Sometimes, the best travel experiences are the ones you don’t plan for. I recently found myself in Sarajevo, a city I hadn’t originally intended to visit, and I was completely enchanted by its charm. Sarajevo isn’t just a city; it’s a living history book, brimming with tales of triumph and turmoil. This crossroads of civilizations has seen it all, from Ottoman grandeur to 20th-century struggles. You can’t walk its streets without feeling the weight of its past.
• The 1914 Assassination: Sarajevo made headlines worldwide when Gavrilo Princip’s fateful shot at Archduke Franz Ferdinand set off World War I. It’s a defining moment etched into the city’s story.
• Ottoman Legacy: Stroll through Sarajevo and you’ll see the influence of the Ottomans in its mosques, old bazaars, and unique blend of cultures. It’s a city that wears its history on its sleeve.
• The 1990s Siege: The city’s scars from the Bosnian War are still visible, but so is its spirit of recovery. The resilience and hope in Sarajevo’s ongoing rebuild reflect its unbreakable character. Sarajevo is buzzing with excitement for its future.
The city is embracing growth and modernization while retaining its warm, welcoming spirit. With new businesses, cultural events, and vibrant community life, Sarajevo is evolving into a must-visit destination. The local people are incredibly friendly, making every visitor feel at home. As Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to develop, Sarajevo stands as a beacon of optimism and charm, promising an enriching experience for everyone who comes to explore.

If you are a foodie person you can't miss this guide about Sicilian and Trapanese food.
It includes different restaurants, bars, bakeries and "gelateria".
I'll update it while trying more day by day!
BE AWARE, if traveling to Sicily you are going to gain some kilos: the weight of a really authentic Mediterranean diet!
With this interactive guide, you can directly:
🔺get directions with Google Maps
🔺 tap on the Map to have an overview
I tried my best to separate the places to enjoy them at different meals during the day, but it's kind of struggling in Sicily, because many places covered most of the meals!
Make sure to save it to get updates as they come.
Feel free to drop me your feedback!

Looking for a perfect way to spend a long weekend in Maui, Hawai’i, check out this 3 and a half day itinerary to take the stress out of planning your ideal island vacation and leave the relaxing to you. This itinerary is made for adults ages 21+ in mind.
When in Hawai’i, always remember to respect the locals, the rules, their culture and wildlife, leave places better than you found them, and practice the leave no trace principle. Remember, we are guests in their home.
Out of respect and guidance, this guide does not include any stops or activities in West Maui. Our hearts go out to the grieving communities and local islanders who are still struggling to recover from the wildfires in early August 2023. Please do not go to Lahaina or take photos of the area.
Whenever possible, shop, eat, and play by supporting local shops and groups.

Discover the Magic of Dublin: Your Ultimate Guide to the Heart of Ireland's Capital!
Ireland is my favorite country in Europe, I can't lie. Having had the opportunity to travel a lot around the "Emerald Isle," I can assure you that the rainy days are not too bad (LoL). In reality, it doesn't rain that much.
Dublin, (Átha Cliath in Irish language), Ireland's capital, is a lively and bustling city filled with people from all over the world. You'll encounter and hear different nationalities around, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
Dublin boasts a rich and captivating history that spans over a thousand years. The 18th century marked a golden era for the city as it thrived culturally and economically. The Georgian architecture and literary heritage flourished during this time, with renowned figures like Jonathan Swift and Oscar Wilde leaving a lasting mark.
Playing a significant role in the struggle for Irish independence during the 20th century, Dublin witnessed pivotal events such as the 1916 Easter Rising that shaped the nation's destiny. Today, the city seamlessly blends its historical charm with modern vibrancy, making it a must-visit destination for those eager to explore Ireland's intriguing past.
In this guide, you'll find recommendations to fill up at least 4 days of your visit. Here, the focus is more on the not-so-well-advertised experiences because, for the "big" attractions, you can easily find recommendations anywhere.
Have fun!

New to the area? Sick of your regular spots? Fairfield County is Connecticut's gold coast and there's lots to explore.
I moved to Darien, Connecticut, when I was around six years old, and aside from a couple of years when we lived in Hong Kong - it's where I called home for the majority of my life! After five years in Chicago, my fiancé and I moved to Stamford in 2023, and honestly, really struggled to find our footing at first.
We were spoiled rotten when it came to our selection of high-quality, (relatively) low-cost restaurants in Chicago. After about a year of living in CT again, there are good spots - you just have to dig a little deeper to find them.
Look no further - here's my list of tried and true eateries. From upscale restaurants to delis - this guide has you covered! If I've missed anything or if you need recommendations on anything else - let me know!
