The Best Vegan Restaurants in NYC

The Best Vegan Restaurants in NYC

Thatch
New York City is chock-full of restaurants with various cuisines from around the world. With so many places to eat, you may find yourself struggling to make a decision about where to grab a bite. Are you in the mood for Mexican food? Italian? Indian? Japanese? If you’re vegan or just love plant-based food, you can choose from any of the above cuisines, too. New York restaurants know that vegan isn’t one size fits all, which is why their restaurants are based on your food palate and preferred dining experience, as opposed to just excluding meat from their menus.

Like Cadence, Ladybird is one of 11 vegan restaurants/bars owned by Overthrow Hospitality. It opened in 2016, a few years before Overthrow’s other restaurants. People love Ladybird for its cool exterior and vegan tapas. They open for brunch on Saturday and Sunday, but only open for dinner Monday through Friday. Some of their most popular dishes include their grilled cheese, truffle mac and cheese, bao bun bites, and more. This is the type of food you’ll want paired with a drink (or five)!

Dirt Candy (LES)

Dirt Candy
@thatch
Dirt Candy is vegan food at its finest. They believe that vegetables are just candy from the dirt—and once you eat here, you’ll know exactly what they mean. Every season they prepare a different plant-based menu inspired by various cuisines. The dinner menu consists of a five course tasting menu for $95 per person that changes regularly. They also offer a wine pairing for an additional $50. After eating here, you’ll never look at vegetables—or a dining experience—the same way again.

You can still expect quac, beans, and other plant protein in many dishes. Matthew Kenney, the chef and owner of Bar Verde, also owns two other vegan restaurants next door including Double Zero (pizza) and Sestina (pasta).
