You haven't lived until you've had Belgian beer.

You haven't lived until you've had Belgian beer.

I KNOW this is a hot take, and I swear I love Germany with all my heart, but Belgium has the best beer hands down. Not to mention the frites (fries), the chocolate, and the waffles. I have been to many a European city and my tastebuds were happiest in Belgium by far. As an ode to the country (and hopefully as a way to convince you to add Belgium to your next trip), I've created this guide of some of my favorite bars & restaurants I tried throughout the country! For my plant-based besties out there: Many of these places offer vegan options. Some of them are 100% vegetarian or vegan, or have a separate menu catering to those diets. I always struggle when traveling to places with very meat-heavy traditional cuisine because I want to participate in the culture while honoring my diet. Belgium was one of the BEST countries when it came to catering to my needs. Not only did they offer plant-based food, I was able to find plant-based versions of the traditional food (this is really hard sometimes!). You can enjoy the local flavor guilt-free! This guide includes places in Brussels, Ghent, & Antwerp. Belgium is one of my favorite countries. If you'd like a personalized guide to Belgium or want to chat about your upcoming European adventure, check out my travel services! I work with you 1-on-1 to create the trip of a lifetime. Brussels

Le Phare du Kanaal
@autumnmarie
This is a wonderful coworking spot with many vegetarian or vegan options. The menu changes a bit, but I got a delicious veggie sandwich paired with a soup that warmed my soul (and I was not dressed for the weather, so it saved me). My oat cappuccino was top-notch and it tasted even better when I melted the complementary chocolate in it. They do have rooms for rent for remote workers, but I just bought lunch and stayed with my laptop for a while. The interior is cozy.

Delirium Café
@autumnmarie
A touristy spot but for a good reason. The sheer selection of beers on tap is overwhelming in a good way. The music is fun and the atmosphere is electric. You can find a place to sit and sip or a place to dance your heart out. One of the nights, there was a live brass band! It also feels as if this place is never-ending. We would wander from one room to the next, upstairs and downstairs, each with its own bar, and never ended back up where we started. One of the bars (and we went to three before finally finding it) sells a beer flight that allows you to try a few of the manyyy options. Do this first to help narrow down what you like. Each was so unique, even beer haters could find something to sip.

Café Béguin

This Afro-Latino fusion restaurant with both meat and vegetarian options still has my mouth watering months later. My friend and I got the veggie platter to share and it was incredible (pictured in the pinned photo). The perfect amount of food and all of it was delicious; when I go back to Brussels, this will be the first dinner reservation I make!

The Sister Brussels Café
@autumnmarie
Slightly overpriced but delicious all the same, The Sister Cafe is one of the best places to grab a plant-based waffle in Brussels. All of their waffles are vegan and they offer a wide selection of toppings and flavors to satisfy your cravings. Not in the mood for waffles? Their menu is fairly extensive otherwise with plenty of guilt-free options. Their drink menu alone was sizeable, and the physical menu itself was comically large. With both indoor and outdoor seating, this cafe is a sweet way to start the day!

Veganwaf'

Can't get enough waffles? Here's another vegan waffle shop sure to leave your mouth watering. I personally didn't get to this one, but it came highly recommended by a vegan friend of mine. Also, it's a bit more reasonably priced than The Sister Cafe.
