Have you ever dreamt about travelling to Iceland? Here I share the most complete 8-day itinerary along the Ring Road in Iceland!
After having lived in Iceland for more than 1 year, I want to share with you my best tips based on my experience for travelling around one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen and that I like to call home. I’m also sharing special places and not only the most popular ones.
What to consider before reading:
• Personally, I believe that the most enjoyable way to travel around Iceland is by Campervan
• The most important thing to pack is different layers of clothes, no matter what season you are in
• Bare in mind that it's illegal to camp outside campings in Iceland (this is under your own responsibility) and this guide is not focusing on camping sites.
• Be aware of the fast changing and though Icelandic weather.
• Bring eye mask to sleep (there's almost no darkness during the Midnight Sun).
• Feel free to modify the starting point of the road trip (either starting from the South or the West) according to the weather forecast (although it can be unpredictible).
• I would not recommend taking detours that I suggest along the blog if weather conditions are not good.
• Note that the maximum speed limit in Iceland is 90 km/h in main roads, make sure you don't overpass the limit. Traffic fines are very expensive in Iceland, you don't want to pay one! And be careful with sheep! They are constantly crossing the road.
And most importantly, ENJOY YOUR TRIP TO ICELAND!! 😜🇮🇸

This guide will take you on a journey around the famous ring road that encircles the entire country, visiting some of the finest luxury hotels & lagoons the land of fire & ice has to offer.
Iceland doesn’t do outlandish luxury, here it’s the Scandinavia way. It’s all about the experience wrapped up in a minalmist no-fuss package where quality is king.
When money is no object, Iceland offers some truly unique places to rest your head & treat yourself. There are not many places on earth where you can sleep in glass huts gazing up at the norther lights or sleep so close to an active volcano you can feel the tremors. Once in a lifetime experiences can be found in abundance on this Atlantic island nation. .

Iceland's Hot Springs and Pools You Must Visit
Iceland is a geothermal paradise, and its hot springs are some of the most popular attractions in the country.
Here's what you need to know about Iceland's hot springs: Iceland's hot springs are heated naturally by geothermal energy. They are bodies of water that are heated by the earth's natural heat, making them perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. The hot springs in Iceland come in different shapes and sizes, from natural hot springs to geothermal pools.
Iceland's hot springs are a popular tourist attraction and a part of the country's culture. Icelanders have used hot springs for centuries for bathing, cooking, and even washing clothes. Iceland's hot springs are also known for their healing properties. The mineral-rich water is said to have therapeutic benefits for the skin, muscles, and joints.
It's essential to be respectful when visiting Iceland's hot springs. Some hot springs are free to enter, while others require a fee. Following the rules and regulations to preserve these natural wonders is crucial.

Iceland is one of my favorite places in the world and I'm excited to share this itinerary, which covers everything you need to have the most perfect week traveling the Ring Road. Plus I've included details about an off-the-beaten-path destination located in the center of the island, which was the highlight of my trip.
I explored Iceland by van and I believe it is the absolute best way to maximize your time on the island. Van travel saves you money since your accommodations, transportation (and meals if you decide to cook in your van) are all in one!
To travel the Ring Road in just a week, you'll need to be prepared to drive a lot (a few hours each day), but you'll see a lot as well!
If you're looking to hike, experience great Icelandic restaurants, be adventurous, and see the best parts of Iceland in 7-days, then this itinerary is for you.
Destinations covered:
📍Partial Golden Circle
📍Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park
📍Skógar
📍Vík
📍Skaftafell
📍Höfn
📍Seydisfjordur
📍Lake Mývatn
📍Akureyri
📍Reykjavík
📍BONUS: Off-the-beaten-path destination (my favorite part of Iceland)
Recommendations included in the itinerary:
✔️Hikes
✔️Restaurants
✔️Two tours
✔️Van rental information
✔️Campsite information
✔️Easy van meal ideas
✔️Local tips and general Iceland information
✔️Packing list to make van life seamless

Active volcanoes. Dancing northern lights. Gushing geysers. Massive glaciers. Thermal hot springs. Thundering waterfalls. Iceland is the ultimate adventure destination. How have you not been here yet? It’s finally time. Start in the northernmost capital in the world. Reykjavik is a hip, modern city. Then start exploring the wild coastline, the sheep-filled countryside, the icy interior, and the peaceful islands. There are plenty of black-sand beaches, small fishing villages, turf-roofed houses, and epic hikes along the way. Just remember to pack layers. Sometimes, the Gulf Stream provides moderate temperatures. Other times, it’ll feel like you’re in the Arctic. Also don’t forget the long, dark winters and the 24-hour daylight during the short summers. If you take advantage of Icelandair’s free stopover program—a great excuse to visit Helsinki, Copenhagen, and even Paris—you can keep returning to discover which season you like best.

When you head east from Reykjavík, it doesn't take long to leave the Capital Region and enter South Iceland. The city immediately feels quite far away. This area is home to the Golden Circle and Vatnajökull National Park. It's filled with picturesque waterfalls, black-sand beaches, thermal hot springs, iceberg-filled lagoons, stunning hiking trails, and fascinating historic sites. There's a lot to see within relatively short driving distances. It's a good place to start your real Icelandic adventure.
