Iceland | 7-day itinerary by van
Always On PTO
Available for hire
Iceland is one of my favorite places in the world and I'm excited to share this itinerary, which covers everything you need to have the most perfect week traveling the Ring Road. Plus I've included details about an off-the-beaten-path destination located in the center of the island, which was the highlight of my trip.
I explored Iceland by van and I believe it is the absolute best way to maximize your time on the island. Van travel saves you money since your accommodations, transportation (and meals if you decide to cook in your van) are all in one!
To travel the Ring Road in just a week, you'll need to be prepared to drive a lot (a few hours each day), but you'll see a lot as well!
If you're looking to hike, experience great Icelandic restaurants, be adventurous, and see the best parts of Iceland in 7-days, then this itinerary is for you.
Destinations covered:
📍Partial Golden Circle
📍Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park
📍Skógar
📍Vík
📍Skaftafell
📍Höfn
📍Seydisfjordur
📍Lake Mývatn
📍Akureyri
📍Reykjavík
📍BONUS: Off-the-beaten-path destination (my favorite part of Iceland)
Recommendations included in the itinerary:
✔️Hikes
✔️Restaurants
✔️Two tours
✔️Van rental information
✔️Campsite information

Packing List
Before I traveled to Iceland, I had never spent a week in a van, so I did a lot of research on what to pack to keep the van as tidy as possible. The weather in Iceland can change in a matter of minutes, so it is important to pack layers that are equipped for rain or shine. I also highly recommend traveling to Iceland with a backpacking backpack as opposed to rolling luggage because it is much easier to store in a compact van.
Use the packing list below as a guide so you can arrive prepared to enjoy everything Iceland has to offer.
Clothing:
- Waterproof/Windproof Jacket
- Fleece layer

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hi there, welcome to my page!
Nearly 10 years ago, I packed up all of my belongings and moved across the US from my childhood home in Massachusetts to Los Angeles. I had no job, and no plan, but just enough ambition to try something new that got me out of my comfort zone.
It wasn't long after arriving in Los Angeles that I discovered my passion for traveling, adventure, and being outdoors. I've been exploring non-stop ever since and have been lucky enough to experience 7 countries, 25 states, and 15 National Parks. I'm an expert in west coast travel, having explored much of California, Arizona, and Utah.
I'm a hiker, camper, and love to explore off the beaten path, which you'll see reflected in all of my guides and itineraries. Because of my full-time job and limited PTO, I plan my travel ambitiously, often times driving or flying somewhere on a Friday after work for a weekend. I try to fit in seeing as much of a destination as I possibly can on my trips (even if that means sacrificing some sleep!).
I'm always thinking about my next adventure and am very excited to help you plan yours! I hope you're able to find some inspiration with my guides and itineraries, and discover a new place that you want to add to your bucket list.
