It's hard to think of an Italian meal without thinking of a wine to enjoy it with, and the food and wine in Italy could arguably be two of the top reasons to travel there.
Pairing your meal with the perfect wine makes the dining experience that much more enjoyable so to take the guesswork out of what will pair best, the following is a brief guide to some of Italy's most renowned regional dishes, spanning from north to south, along with a few recommended wine pairings for each.
Whether you're dining at an Italian restaurant at home or exploring local eateries in Italy, this guide will help you avoid becoming overwhelmed by extensive wine lists if you are unsure what to look for.
In Italy, feel free to also ask the waiter or sommelier for recommendations on what to drink with your food. They are likely to suggest a wine from the region you are in, not only to help support local wine growers and producers, but also so you have the chance to experience the authentic flavors of the area through both the food and the wine.
⭐️PRO TIP - While dining out, if you plan to enjoy wine with your meal but haven't decided on what you will be eating yet, start with a glass of sparkling wine. This way, you'll have something to sip on while reviewing the food and wine menus and making your choice. Sparkling wine is an excellent palate cleanser to prep you for a savory meal, and Italy has some of the best.
Buon Apetito!

This five-day itinerary and adventure guide to the most beautiful hikes, spas, trails, lakes, restaurants and museums in Munich is the result of over four years of discovering the city as a lifestyle writer, hours of planning, and my personal favorite places and activities around town and Bavaria.
It includes two days of art, culture and restaurants in Munich, one day of swimming at an alpine lake of your choice, one day of exploring the mountains and one day of relaxation & wellness. I have either adapted these days to a precise schedule or included different choices of hikes and lakes, depending on difficulty and distance.
The guide includes fun features such as an interactive map, directions that connect directly to your phone’s Google or Apple Maps app, and the exact coordinates to some of my favorite hidden gems & activities.
It lays out instructions to help you plan your perfect trip to Munich and it surroundings with beautiful boutique, design and wellness hotels within the city or in the Bavarian countryside. As well as 16 of my favorite cafés, restaurants and bars, 12 special sights, 7 local boutique stores, 5 hiking destinations, 5 alpine lakes in the area, a lake tour, some beautiful art and a lot of German culture. It also includes direct links to all locations, so you have access to tickets, phone numbers, booking portals and addresses. It's mobile friendly when you download the Thatch App for free so you can easily access all of the info right from your phone!
While this guide is designed for 5 days and I have written down different transportation options inside and outside the city, it can also easily be adapted to your travel time. Although of course I believe you can never spend too much time in Germany's most beautiful city. 🧚🏻
I have hand-crafted this guide specifically for those (like me) who want to experience Munich's versatility while enjoying direct access to nature as well as local city life. As a part of your purchase, here are a few things you can look forward to:
1. I only create guides based on areas I have not only been to but know well! I lived in Munich for four years and tried out all kinds of fun activities and restaurants/cafés as part of my job. So this guide is a collection of the most beautiful places that I can recommend with a clear heart and that I will visit again the moment I am back in Munich.
2. No matter if you've never climbed a mountain before or already scaled Mount Everest: This guide offers a variety of outdoor activities, so everyone will get their money's worth. What you should bring, however, are swimming gear and hiking boots.
3. I've listed five different options for getting around Munich and the surrounding area. So you don't have to worry that you won't be able to reach your destination without a driver's license.
4. This guide is completely transparent and I have not been paid by anyone to write it. I have mainly written down these experiences because I love Munich and believe that the city often suffers from a simplistic image. That's why I want you to experience the city's nightlife, rich nature and unique subculture the way I did for years as a local.
This guide truly is everything you need to plan your entire trip all in one place. I can't wait to hear & see your adventure! Feel free to send me a DM with your feedback & tag me in your photos! @brggbck

I want to help you discover the lesser known places in Florence. You already know the David, the Duomo, and Ponte Vecchio. But do you know the best place to get a craft beer? Eat the best Chinese food? Join a summer beach party? I’m here to help you live like a local!
I spent two years living in the beautiful Renaissance city of Florence, Italy. Spending so much time in this city allowed me to remove myself from the regular touristy spots that so many people get caught up going to when they have just a few days here.
Unfortunately, Florence really does suffer from over-tourism, particularly in the summer months. This can make it difficult to feel like you're truly a part of the life of the city. Fortunately, however, there are a ton of great places around the city, less known to tourists, where you can get to know another part of the city.
In this guide, I will introduce you to those spots: the lesser-known, more local hot spots to have coffee, eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, date night, live music, and drink the night away.
This guide is perfect for people who want to go to hip and cool places that are off the beaten path, which can be hard to find in Florence. Maybe you're going to be in Florence for just a few days and want to be in the know right away, or maybe you're a student coming to spend a semester in Florence. This guide will help you get a head start on all the best places that your friends probably haven't told you about.
I've also provided information about transportation around the city, from walking to biking to the tramvia, etc.
What this guide does NOT include: All of the historical sites, art museums, and famous statues. Every blog post includes these types of things in Florence. I want to provide you with another side of Florence.

This itinerary outlines nine days of continuous adventure on the North Island of New Zealand. Spend a couple days exploring Auckland and the nearby islands, head out west for some black sand beaches and secret coves, hit up some insane hiking trails, and head to the east coast for some stunning beaches that draw the local crowds all summer.
This itinerary is partially in hotels, but most of it is geared towards campervanning or rooftop tenting it through the North Island (that's what we did & LOVED it). It also includes a few hours of driving a day, and quite a few hiking opportunities (of course these can be substituted for other activities in the area). If you don't want to drive as much you could always spread the activities over more days, or skip your least favourite part to spend more time in the other areas ... but good luck trying to choose! Each day outlines activities to fill your day, how much driving, what to eat, where to stay, and other suggestions / information.
This itinerary covers the following specific places:
-> Auckland
-> Waiheke Island
-> Hobbiton
-> Marakopa
-> New Plymouth (Mt Taranaki)
-> Tongariro National Park
-> Lake Taupo
-> Coromandel Peninsula
-> Coromandel Forest Park
& so much more!
Note: if you're interested in doing both North and South Island in one trip, you should definitely consider purchasing our 3 week itinerary (found on our thatch home page) as it includes all of this same information & everything on the South Island!

While Italy is synonymous with the delightful tradition of Aperitivo, its cocktail scene is a whole other world waiting to be explored. As a seasoned traveller who appreciates a perfectly crafted drink (and the friendly chat with the bartender that often comes with it), I've had the pleasure of discovering countless incredible cocktail bars across the country. Whether it's a new city I'm visiting or a familiar favourite I'm revisiting, Italy never disappoints.
Lucky for me, Northern Italy is my home base, and it boasts a high concentration of exceptional options. However, the South holds its own when it comes to fantastic cocktail experiences (with Rome leading the charge) This guide represents my curated list of the best-of-the-best, a culmination of expert experiences and the occasional repeat visit for quality assurance (yes, sometimes a second or third try is necessary!).
Italy, after all, is the birthplace of iconic cocktail ingredients like Vermouth, Campari, and Aperol. But its treasure trove extends far beyond, with gems like St. Germain, Amaro, Grappa, Amaretto, Limoncello, and the hospitality worker's secret weapon - Fernet.

Sicily is like an onion 🧅 whose layers are peeled to reveal yet more layers. Nearly the size of Massachusetts, Sicily - Mediterranean’s largest island - offers a seemingly overwhelming range of textures, tastes and experiences: hilltop towns built from a honey-colored stone that turns incandescent at sunset, blood 🏵️ oranges so sweet you can eat the peel, churches built atop Phoenician walls, adorned with Arab flourishes and covered in Byzantine mosaics, beaches running from grey pebbles to licorice-black sand and always the vast prairie of the sea, stretching to the horizon in shimmering blues and greens.
The island is undeniably Italian but also proudly and stubbornly apart from the mainland, which many locals refer to as "il continente". I've even included some personal anecdotes to give extra color to each destination!
NB: As I travel back to the region I will continue to update this list. If you purchase today, you will receive all future updates.

In this guide, you’ll discover 36 must-see sights and hidden gems, along with some tips for a stress-free trip in BA. I’ve included famous spots as well as a few surprises I stumbled upon that I think are absolutely worth sharing.
I spent two weeks exploring Argentina’s capital in January 2024, and fell head over heels for Buenos Aires. It’s now my second favorite city in South America, after Rio. From the incredible food and budget-friendly prices to the tango vibes and irresistible alfajores, this city completely stole my heart.

Essential Guide to Porto: A mix of must-see spots and less-traveled local favorites
Porto is my favorite city in Portugal (and quite possibly my favorite city in Europe). I've spent over 3 months here in the last two years, which has given me the unique opportunity to fully experience all Porto has to offer. But I also know what it's like to only have two or three days to try to see & do it all, and why I have created this guide for you. I've highlighted all the best spots, and added in some local favorites, to help you maximize your time in this incredibly vibrant city!
Rather than have a rigid, scheduled checklist of places, I've tried to group locations together that would make sense if walking around the city. If you start the day where I've suggested, you'll have many options along the way from start to finish. Use the map icon to toggle between the guide and the map, or use the directions tab in each location description to link you to directly to Google maps.
This guide includes:
🔹Suggested sites and activities for 3 days in Porto, thoughtfully & geographically grouped together to help maximize your time in the city.
🔹A mix of the "typical" spots to see, as well as some less-traveled places to add something different & unique to your experience.
🔹Tips and insights given are from my own personal experiences from spending over 3 months in this amazing city. This is not just a generic laundry list of an itinerary!
And obviously you'll take lunch, wine (!!) and dinner breaks along the way. I didn't include restaurant options here, as I have an entire guide on just food! You will definitely want to check it out, so I'll link it below! ⬇️

Aberdeen in Scotland is a great location to explore the east coast! We visited on our road trip, and whilst we didn't dive too much into the city itself, the area around Aberdeen has to much to offer. It's close to the Cairngorms, castles, coastal villages, and so much more. Here's our recommendations for around Aberdeen.
