Alba: King Of Italian Wine, Truffles and So Much More.

Alba is a popular town, and for really good reasons and absolutely worth a visit especially if you time it well you can indulge in some of the best Italian produce and wine all at the same time namely the International Truffle Festival (Nov and into the first week of Dec) Of one of the many street wine festivals they hold throughout the year. So basically this town always celebrates some sort and it's usually food and booze-related. It's home to some of the best Italian red wines, including the legendary Barolos and Barbarescos. As you wander through the cobblestone streets, the enchanting aroma of truffles fills the air, setting the stage for a culinary journey like no other. Alba's International Truffle Festival is your golden ticket to a world of gastronomic delights. From the classic Vitello Tonnato to the mouthwatering Plin pasta, each bite is a celebration of Piedmontese perfection. This guide is your ticket to exploring the town's cozy wine bars, local eateries, wineries, and distilleries, uncovering the vibrant soul of Alba in its lively farmers' markets. Get ready to eat, sip, shop, and discover the true essence of Alba!

Alba
@RoamingGraciously
Alba is one of the main cities in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato. The town is famous for its white truffle (also heaps of black) wine production of the king of Italian wine Barolo (Barbaresco and Nebbiolo as well as lesser-known varietals like Nacetta a white varietal I LOVE) and delicious hazelnuts just to name a few, so it has a bit going on and a heap of reasons to visit. Honestly is so beautiful you will not want to leave, it is only 40 mins from Turin and 2 hours from Milan and about the same as Bologna (another incredible northern Italian city) so its basically the centre of Italy.

Restaurants and Bars of Alba

Restaurants of Alba are all well located in the centre of the city (walkable) with a few others thrown in for good luck that are my favourites a little further afield in a place called La Morra. The huge number of high-end restaurants in the region is due to the incredible wines made in the region such as Barolo and Barbaresco but they tend to be located out in wine country. Alba has a great range of well-priced and great-quality places that highlight the Piedmont regional cuisine without needing to visit these places. Everything from breakfast, coffee, pasties, lunch favourites, and traditional old-school slow food establishments are listed in this guide and believe they are all great, if anything choosing is the hardest.

This is hands down my favourite place in Alba for a long or short lunch, a cheeky glass of wine or a quick coffee. The owner and matriarch of the family is normally on the till and the boys run around doing a wonderful job at keeping locals and tourists happy. - They also have rooms you can stay in so try and get one if you can.

La Piola
@RoamingGraciously
This is the little sister to the Piazza Duomo (it's upstairs and the fancy one with the pink-walled paintings) I like this Trattoria often the quality and service are just as good as the more pricy big brother and in this case it's true. - Take advantage of the well-priced pasta.

I have a little something to suit everyone and am versatile and adaptable when it comes to travel budgets, be it my own or others. You can find me anywhere from luxury to real-life affordability. In the rare weeks when my suitcase is stashed, I'm busy planning the next trip to visit a producer I have longed to meet, cooking or scouring antique markets for treasures (mainly spoons). If you haven’t found me in one of these activities, it is because I am tapped into academics; either developing my thesis research on the social culture of coffee or absorbing other academic papers that pique my interest. On Thatch, I'm not just your guide; I'm your culinary confidante. I am here to spice up your journeys with humour and flavour while helping you build memorable experiences of your own.
