๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท Buenos Aires: Top Sights & Hidden Gems

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท Buenos Aires: Top Sights & Hidden Gems

In this guide, youโ€™ll discover 36 must-see sights and hidden gems, along with some tips for a stress-free trip in BA. Iโ€™ve included famous spots as well as a few surprises I stumbled upon that I think are absolutely worth sharing. I spent two weeks exploring Argentinaโ€™s capital in January 2024, and fell head over heels for Buenos Aires. Itโ€™s now my second favorite city in South America, after Rio. From the incredible food and budget-friendly prices to the tango vibes and irresistible alfajores, this city completely stole my heart.

Welcome to Buenos Aires, Argentina's capital and largest city, often called the 'Paris of South America' for its European-style architecture. In some streets, you might forget you're in South America! Youโ€™ll enjoy the city's unique arts scene and the locals' passionate nature, especially when it comes to football and dance. Another common nickname for Buenos Aires is 'BA'.

If thereโ€™s one iconic landmark you must check off your bucket list as a top priority, itโ€™s definitely the majestic Obelisco! Built in 1936 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the city's founding, the tall monument is located at the heart of the city center.

The Obelisco in Buenos Aires stands at 67.5 meters (221 feet) tall. It's the city's most iconic landmark, located at the intersection of Avenida 9 de Julio and Avenida Corrientes.

Once you've seen the giant monument, you can go explore the vibrant neighborhood of Palermo, one of the city's largest and most vibrant districts. Palermo is known for its trendy shops, beautiful parks, numerous restaurants, and booming nightlife.ย

Most tourists and expats choose accommodation in this neighborhood to be close to the main attractions and bars. I recommend you do the same. Like many visitors, this was my favorite neighborhood in BA.

Don't miss walking around the various areas, like Palermo Hollywood, Palermo Viejo, and Palermo Sohoโ€”thereโ€™s so much to explore!

Growlers Palermo
@hoacha
This is a great place to grab a beer and soak in the local atmosphere! When my boyfriend and I visited, a language exchange event was going on, with plenty of young people from around the world practicing their Spanish and Portuguese. It's a great way to meet locals and other travelers. I especially recommend this place if you're traveling solo.
