Growing up in Oregon gave me access to a myriad of adventure activities, and one of my most beloved traditions was driving the scenic, affectionately-named "fruit loop". Stopping at various stands along the road to savor the taste of fresh fruit, pick flowers, sip on juices, and interact with friendly goats made a summer or fall day feel like a scene straight out of a movie. After exploring the loop, you can choose to continue your journey to Mount Hood or head back up the Columbia Gorge towards Portland.
This guide is the result my love of planning, research, and exploring the region on multiple trips.
It lays out instructions to help you plan your perfect trip to this area (including tasting rooms, photo spots, farms, orchards and u-pick flowers!), accommodation suggestions, direct links to every resource you could need, behind the scenes exclusive photos and videos from me, and so much more!
I can guarantee a few things with the guide you are purchasing:
-All opinions are my own unless explicitly a recommendation from another source. I am never compensated for my words or stay (I tend to prioritize budget options for this reason)
-This is a living document that will be updated as I find more gems on the fruit loop
This guide boasts an array of exciting features, such as an interactive map, precise directions that can be directly linked to your Google or Apple Maps app, and the exact coordinates to some of the most cutest hidden gems and tasting rooms that I have discovered.
To make things even more convenient, the guide is mobile-friendly when you download the free Thatch App, allowing you to access all of the information right from your phone with ease.
I would really appreciate your feedback! Please don't hesitate to send me a direct message. And if you'd like to showcase the beautiful photos you will inevitably take, feel free to tag me in them!

*please note price is in USD and I can’t change the currency*
And please note the guide is IN PROGRESS. Purchasing gives you all updates, and I’m spending a lot of time to update most days. Currently you can view the waypoints. Track descriptions are being added daily. Not all tracks have descriptions yet. Descriptions include info on track conditions and terrain and how our kids of various stages found it.
A guide to the Hut of New Zealand, with children in tow!
Get reliable information on which hikes (With a focus on overnight) are great for kids, as well as specific child-friendly information on them. This is designed to be a parents guide and works great as an accompaniment to our My Overnight Adventure Journal, available in both Te Ika-a-Māui and Te Waipounamu, in hard print for the kids to take with on your adventures.
Map Key:
STAY symbol -DOC or other hut.
GO symbol - Drive-to DOC or similar hut. (May be 4wd accessible)
DO symbol - Walk-to camp ground. Either wild camping, or proper DOC tramping campground with toilets.
Child friendly ratings explained:
5 stars: Easy shorter track, simple enough that most first timers can visit, and kids of all ages can visit (with some carrying needed for younger ages) Suitable for beginner/ never ever tramped before parents to take never ever tramped before kids.
4 stars: Easy spot to visit, however caveats exist. Eg. Big river crossing, not having a 4wd makes the track harder, there is a dodgy section, or track is on the longer side. Sometimes it is because despite the hut being very easily accessible, it’s in poor condition, and you’d need a tent to stay here, making it a less than ideal trip.
3 stars: Might not make a great first trip, but is a track kids will enjoy. Still relatively child friendly, but will need adults that have overnight hiked in a variety of terrain before, and are capable of decision making on the trip. Kids under 4 will likely need carried for sections.
2 stars: Not super child friendly, but still enjoyable for capable kids. Kids under 5 will likely need to be carried for sections. 5 year olds would need to have done several trips to be capable. But could be a first time trip for average 10yo+
1 star: Older and fit kids 8-12+ will enjoy these. They’re not great first trips, but if you’re experienced, you could take an older more capable kid here as a first trip if you’re prepared to take all day.
0 stars: I likely won’t add these to the map, but these would be huts not recommended even for experienced kids.
At the start, this map will have a bunch of locations that are child friendly, and I will add descriptive text as time goes on. For now some are missing descriptive text. Buying the guide now ensures you will get all the updates. This includes text and images, as it is updated in real time.
Your support of the guide in these early stages ensures that I can continue writing the content. It will also be published in a hard copy physical book once ready.

Ljubljana is the capital and largest city in Slovenia. The Dragon City, which straddles the Ljubljanica River, survived Roman, Habsburg, and Yugoslavian rule to lead the mountainous country into independence. Slovenia has become the Green Heart of Europe, while Ljubljana is one of the greenest capitals on the continent.
This charming city is home to less than 300,000 people. It's a university town, a tech center, and an artist's haven. The Old Town is full of Baroque buildings with red-tiled roofs, detailed bridges, and lively squares. Cafes with terrace seating line the river, which is used by kayakers and sightseeing boats. New hotels, restaurants, and wine bars keep popping up in this car-free area. While Ljubljana Castle stands on a hill overlooking it all.
The compact city is a central base for adventures all over the small country. But best of all: Ljubljana still feels like an under-the-radar destination. Go fall in love with this enchanting city before everyone else catches on.
This detailed guide includes:

Drink: lounges, wine bars

Basel is one of the most historic and intiquring cities in Switzerland! We visited this beautiful destination while on our honeymoon during Christmastime, and it quickly became one of our most favorite places we’ve traveled to.
Nestled along the serene banks of the Rhine River, Basel Switzerland weaves a tapestry of history and culture that enchants every visitor with its history. Founded as the settlement Augusta Raurica by the Romans in 44 BC, this ancient town quickly grew into a vital trade nexus, bridging the realms of the Roman Empire with the northern tribes.
Wander through Basel’s medieval core, where cobblestone streets meander past half-timbered houses and charming squares. The Basel Minster, an I’m posting gothic cathedral dominates the skyline with its rose-colored sandstone and twin spires. Inside, intricate carvings and beautiful stained glass tell tales of the city’s spiritual past. The Town Hall, with its vivid red facade and elaborate frescoes, stands as a testament to Basel’s prosperous mercantile history. Here, vibrant markets and lively festivals echo the city’s enduring spirit.
Today, Basel remains a dynamic blend of old-world charm and contemporary flair, where history and modernity coexist in a captivating partnership.
While on our honeymoon in 2022 we visited Basel Switzerland in the middle of wintertime, a couple weeks before Christmas. We fell in love with this city and the magical winter wonderland that it becomes during the festive time of year.
Basel’s Old Town, with its medieval charm is adorned with twinkling lights and shimmering decorations, creating an enchanting backdrop for its renowned Christmas markets. The scent of mulled wine and warm treats wafts through the crisp air, mingling with the magical atmosphere. The Christmas markets’ vibrant atmosphere, coupled with Basel’s rich heritage and history create an unforgettable holiday experience, earning it a place as the crown jewel of Swiss Christmas celebrations.

Egypt & Jordan - considered two unbelievable wonders of the world - provide thousands of years of history.
This 14-day itinerary has been put together based on a group trip I led for clients back in 2022. It was my 2nd time to Egypt and my first-time to Jordan - both countries should definitely be visited.
The itinerary is set-up in a way that you could separate out each country if your schedule only allows for minimal travel days. So in essence, you get 2 country itineraries for the price of 1!
Throughout you will experience a dramatic world beyond what you can think, as you enter into two countries filled with legends, history, and indescribable natural beauty.
The itinerary includes a visit to the famous Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx and includes a 4-night Nile River Cruise.
In Jordan, you will visit Petra, the “Rose Red City” that appears as if it emerged straight from the rock bed. Admire the ethereal landscape of the desert city of Wadi Rum, the “Valley of the Moon.” And, indulge at a deluxe spa resort on the Northern shore of the Dead Sea.
We have also added in some key tours, unique experiences and the opporutinity to delve into the culture and flavours of these lands. Hundreds of thousands of years of history and iconic wonders, delicious cuisine, and stretching sunsets fading against the desert horizon – this is Egypt and Jordan.
Note, throughout the itinerary we have listed options available for tours or additional stays to extend your trip and encourage a greater experience and immersion into the countries.

When I decided to become a sommelier back in 2009, I felt that the best way to learn about wine and winemaking was to visit as many vineyards as I could. The first area that I focused on was a territory in Campania known as Irpinia. It is located in the northeast portion of the Avellino province. I remember spending my Saturdays visiting wineries, wine tasting, and walking the vineyards. I learned so much! Not just about wine, but the culture that surrounds it. I fell in love and I think if you get a chance to visit some of the wineries listed here, you will fall in love as well.
In this corner of Campania there is practically everything when it comes to territory; hills, mountains, lakes, rivers, clayey soil, volcanic soil. I could go on. Red grape varieties include aglianico and piedirosso. White grape varieties include greco, fiano, coda di volpe, and greco musc’. Irpinia is home to 3 DOP wines – Taurasi (made with aglianico), Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo.
*In Italy, when you see a wine label the says DOP (Denominazione di Origine Protetta – Protected Designation of Origin)- it is a guarantee that the wine was produced in a certain area under certain strict conditions. (It is NOT an indication of the quality of the wine)
That being said, wineries have their vineyards spread throughout the area-often far from the winery itself.
My guide is perfect for wine enthusiasts – those who are looking for an adventure in a glass.
My guide includes
- 🛣️maps
- 💻links to the wineries

Potrei continuare. I vitigni a bacca rossa includono aglianico e piedirosso.
