Pre-Roadtrip Prep: Tips and Tricks for a Smooth Adventure Ahead!

-Securing a Ride: Vehicle Safety Preparations for Your Journey!

Ensuring the safety of your vehicle is paramount before embarking on your road trip adventure. Conduct a thorough vehicle inspection, checking tire pressure, fluid levels, brakes, lights, and the battery to ensure everything is in good working condition. Prioritize securing all loose items inside the car to prevent them from becoming projectiles around corners or sudden stops. If you have any doubts about the durability of your vehicle, consider renting one from Turo or a similar company. In the event of breakdowns, you won't be responsible for transporting the car back to ID/UT; instead, you'll have the flexibility to rent another and continue your journeyā€”a strategy my boyfriend and I found invaluable during our own road trip. Safety first ensures peace of mind as you hit the open road.

-Essential & Trip Specific Packing Tips!

-Enhance Your Adventure with Hiking Apps!

To fully embrace the multitude of hiking opportunities presented by the numerous national forests, parks, and other scenic destinations on this itinerary, I highly recommend downloading a hiking app to track trails. With an abundance of trails listed in this itinerary, having a tool like AllTrails at your disposal can be invaluable. I personally found AllTrails to be exceptionally helpful for navigating the trails in various National Parks, but regardless of your preference, having a hiking app close by ensures you're equipped to explore the wilderness with confidence. So, before you set out on your adventure, be sure to download your preferred hiking app (and some maps to accompany it) and get ready to discover the beauty of nature one trail at a time.

Or use code: trinity30 in checkout!

-Download Your Offline Maps for Smooth Navigation!

Before embarking on your epic road trip adventure, I highly recommend downloading all relevant Google Maps to your phone in advance. This precaution ensures you'll have access to navigation even in areas with limited or no cellular service. From the bustling streets of Boise, Idaho, to the remote beauty of Canyonlands in Utah, having offline maps on hand provides peace of mind and ensures you can find your way even off the beaten path. So, take a moment to download the maps for your entire route, and you'll be well-equipped to navigate any unexpected twists and turns along the way.

Our Decision:Ā

After a delightful evening in Salt Lake City, I highly recommend staying for the night, especially considering the extensive driving planned for the next day. We found a wonderful place to stay in the Avenues neighborhood, right in the city center. The location was ideal, offering easy access to downtown attractions and restaurants. However, we couldn't help but wonder about the breathtaking views that could be found in the upper Avenues or Federal Heights, overlooking the city below. Renting a place higher up on the hill would not only offer stunning vistas but also provide a welcome escape from the smog that often blankets Utah's valleys. The unfortunate reality is that smog can be a significant issue in the Salt Lake City area, particularly during winter inversions when cold air becomes trapped beneath warm air, leading to a buildup of pollution. By staying higher up in the hills, we hoped to minimize our exposure to smog and maximize our enjoyment of the city's natural beauty. Overall, while our stay in the Avenues was delightful, we couldn't help but imagine the added charm and tranquility of renting a place in the upper Avenues or Federal Heights, where we could savor the stunning views and escape the haze of urban pollution.

The petroglyph panels, located off the left side of Highway 24 when driving east through Capitol Reef National Park, offer a fascinating glimpse into the ancient history and culture of the region. This was probably my boyfriend's favorite part of the whole trip. For someone who doesn't care too much for history, it can go very quickly. However, for someone who likes artifacts and historical references, you could be here for hours trying to decipher the meanings of the drawings and also how the people got to the heights they did before tractors or cranes existed. These ancient rock carvings, created by Native American peoples thousands of years ago, depict a variety of symbols, figures, and scenes that hold significance to the indigenous peoples who once inhabited the area. Additionally, permits are day-specific, allowing access only on the specified date. Obtaining the permit involves watching an educational conservation video.
