If you’re thinking of going to Iceland and including the Westfjords in your trip, this guide is made for you. I have been living in the Westfjords for 2 years now and started working as a tourist guide alongside my studies. I have traveled around the country and I still think that the Westfjords are among the most remote and beautiful places. When people go to Iceland, they often come for 7 or 10 days around the ring road, and skip the Westfjords due to lack of time or because they have never heard of the Westfjords. This small region of 7,000 inhabitants has so much to show you. You do need a good car and a few days to visit it though, because roads are winding and are subject to the harsh climate (check veður.is) Roads are often closed in the winter (check road.is), but it is an incredible time to go to the Westfjords to see snowy fjords and northern lights. Check out these top spots in Iceland that are either hidden gems or worth braving the crowds. Most are outdoor experiences, because the reason people visit Iceland is because of the natural beauty. Sure, summer is the prime time to visit Iceland for the weather, but don’t be fooled—other seasons bring great things too (like the aurora). Iceland's weather changes every five minutes, its bad and good at the same time, and you might just have bad clothing if you're not having a great time. Positive attitudes are required here, and a bit of planning. I’m Jules, and after a year living, studying, and exploring Iceland, I’m here to share my favorite unforgettable spots. I made a YouTube video showcasing months worth of footage in these locations for those who want a virtual tour. This list is based on that video. I’ve sprinkled in some cool tips and hidden gems for each place to enhance your visit. Rest assured, I only recommend what I genuinely love. Hopefully we get along. The Faroe Islands are the kind of place you would visit for a maximum of a week, as it is an expensive destination, much like Iceland. Renowned for its spectacular sea cliff formations, puffins, and bird watching, this archipelago is perfect for any nature explorer. Although not as large as Iceland, the Faroe Islands consist of 18 main islands, some of which are easily reachable while others require a private helicopter or special permission. It is necessary to get a car rental to get around, as public transportation is infrequent, and without a car, you may be limited in terms of places you can visit. This itinerary is based on a car road trip. Tips: No cash is needed as everything can be paid for with a credit card. Check the ferry schedule online at https://www.ssl.fo/en/home. Supermarkets are closed on Sundays, except for Mylnan. Always verify the opening hours of takeaways and restaurants on their Facebook pages, as the opening hours on Google Maps may not be up to date. Most cafes and restaurants are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There aren't many food places outside of the capital Tórshavn, so do plan for your meals, be it eating at cafes or restaurants or simply stocking on basic food necessities from the supermarkets. Purchase alcoholic beverages and soda at the airport for a lower price. Make sure to buy them before leaving the airport! Welcome to the Faroe Islands! September is a fabulous month for those yearning to explore the secluded Faroe Islands. The autumn in Faroe Islands will slowly roll in and the magical colours of the Arctic grass carpet on the mountains will start to show. In early September everything is still lush green but will softly transform to colours of yellow, orange and red as the bright evenings of summer are taken over by the darker nights of autumn. The Faroe islands are truly a magical place. Located half way between Scotland and Iceland in the Northeast Atlantic, the Faroe Islands are an archipelago of 18 mountainous islands, with a total land area of 1,399 square kilometres, a sea area of 274,000 square kilometres and a population of 50,000. The language of the Faroe Islands is Faroese. ​The average day temperature in September is 9° C (48° F). Snow is very unlikely. The temperature will be quit stable never getting below 5° C and above 15° C. Expect hoovering wind to blow in your face while you are out immersing yourself in the wilderness. Rain can from time to time drop almost horizontally and waterfalls along the mountains might just as well flow upward than drop down.

After having lived in Iceland for more than 1 year, I want to share with you my best tips based on my experience for travelling around one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen and that I like to call home. I’m also sharing special places and not only the most popular ones. What to consider before reading: • Personally, I believe that the most enjoyable way to travel around Iceland is by Campervan • The most important thing to pack is different layers of clothes, no matter what season you are in • Bare in mind that it's illegal to camp outside campings in Iceland (this is under your own responsibility) and this guide is not focusing on camping sites. • Be aware of the fast changing and though Icelandic weather. • Bring eye mask to sleep (there's almost no darkness during the Midnight Sun). • Feel free to modify the starting point of the road trip (either starting from the South or the West) according to the weather forecast (although it can be unpredictible). • I would not recommend taking detours that I suggest along the blog if weather conditions are not good. • Note that the maximum speed limit in Iceland is 90 km/h in main roads, make sure you don't overpass the limit. Traffic fines are very expensive in Iceland, you don't want to pay one! And be careful with sheep! They are constantly crossing the road.
