Everything I loved in Rome besides the obvious (Colosseum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Vatican, etc.)

Food

Caffè 67
@sarahpollock
Great breakfast option in Trastevere! Cheap prices, good quality, neighborhood vibe, friendly owners :)

Le Levain Roma
@sarahpollock
Great artisanal bakery I went to a few mornings for breakfast. Their pastries are more French-style than classic Italian. Take note if you want an actual good croissant because those are not easy to find in Italy.

All'Antico Vinaio
@sarahpollock
Roman outpost of my favorite sandwiches in the world (originally from Florence), which I would recommend seeking out any time/in every city you can.

Mordi & Vai
@sarahpollock
Great Roman paninis. BUT, note that Roman paninis are different than Tuscan (what you're most likely used to). If you'd rather stick to what you know I'd recommend All Antico Vinaio instead.

Supplì Roma

The arancini here!!!! Wow.

Antico Forno Roscioli
@sarahpollock
The entire Roscioli chain is amazing. This outpost in particular is one of my favorites for an easy lunch/meal on the go. I've seen lots of walking/food tour groups stop here too if that's any indication.

Roscioli Caffè Pasticceria
@sarahpollock
The only place I found in Rome that actually knew how to make an iced cappuccino (I went in June). And made it well!!!

Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina
@sarahpollock
Incredible quality as expected. Everything we tried was great.

Trattoria Da Enzo al 29
@sarahpollock
Historic no frills restaurant in Trastevere. Their pasta was some of the best I had in Rome. If you go in the summer, get the fried artichoke as an appetizer!!! (also, there will be lines down the block here. Great place to dine solo because they'll seat you faster. Otherwise, I'd come about 30-60 min before they opening and prepare your appetite accordingly.)

LUCIANO Cucina Italiana - Roma
@sarahpollock
This was probably the best carbonara I've ever had, in a city full of carbonara. (also recommended by Italian comedian Matteo Lane which is how I learned about it)

Osteria del Sostegno
@sarahpollock
Slightly more upscale option, but the food is GOOD here. Requires reservation.

Ai Marmi
@sarahpollock
Great traditional pizza spot in Trastevere. Always crowded. The fried appetizers are great too.

Emma restaurant
@sarahpollock
Thought by some to be the best pizza in Rome. I'm a bad critic of this because I love most pizza, but it was really really good. Note: this is a sit-down restaurant, contrary to a lot of Roman pizzerias which are by the square and completely counter-service. Emma probably requires a reservation too.

SforniAmo
@sarahpollock
This place was phenomenal- maybe some of the best pizza I've ever had.

Regoli Pasticceria
@sarahpollock
Historic classic Italian bakery. Century-old, family-run, they know what they're doing etc. etc. Go here!

Forno Campo de 'Fiori
@sarahpollock
Another classic traditional Italian bakery, but on the opposite side of town from Regioli. Save both and go to whichever one you're closest to.

Gelateria del Viale
@sarahpollock
It's hard to find BAD gelato in Rome, but this place was exceptional.

Cappella Contarelli
@sarahpollock
I don't know how obvious this one is to non-art history people but everyone should stop in here! It's completely free/open to the public, gorgeous, and has one of Caravaggio's most famous paintings just hanging there... crazy.

Doria Pamphili Gallery
@sarahpollock
Gorgeous art gallery in a gorgeous building near the city center. Very doable size too. I think you need tickets for this ahead of time!

National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art
@sarahpollock
I REALLY enjoyed this museum. I think its often overlooked by the Borghese Gallery close by, but do not sleep on this one! I found the collection refreshing compared to the at times overwhelming amounts of Renaissance/Bouroque/religious art covering the rest of the city.

Villa Borghese
@sarahpollock
Most peaceful part of the city, right in the middle of a gorgeous park.

Awesome boutique bookstore in the middle of a fun shopping area. Mostly independent and art/coffee table books. Lots in English too. Fun to look!
