Welcome to Rome! I know this city can be overwhelming, so I'm here to help! I've divided this guide in various sections (neighbourhood names). These are my favorite places to eat and drink in the Eternal City
Please remember it is always best to make reservations while in Rome. If you show up to a restaurant and they are fully booked, they most likely send you away, there is no concept of waiting in line for the next table to free up in Rome (there are some exceptions like most pizza places)
Tipping in restaurants is not expected, but it is always very much appreciated! Please remember that tips can only be left in cash so make sure to always have some smaller pieces on hand (it is also preferred when paying for small things like a coffee or water bottle in a bar)

Roman cuisine is so much more than the ordinary pasta and pizza that everyone assumes at first instance. Being highly influenced by the 'poor person's' concept of cooking, our cuisine is filled with traditional historic recipes, which have been handed down through several generations and transformed over the course of time.
With hundreds of restaurants all serving their own versions of classics and innovative dishes, you will have a culinary experience that will exceed your expectations.
Having said this, Rome can be a very confusing and overwhelming city to visit. With so many restaurants, bars and food establishments in general to choose from, it's very easy to fall into tourist traps.
This is my guide with all my favourite food and beverage spots that you must visit when in Rome!

How to spend a whole day in Rome with just €20, including 4 meals and 20 attractions to visit.
If visiting during the summer, please be wary of the heat and take plenty of water breaks, making use of the hundreds of drinking water fountains around the city.

Rome is a city of magnificent, well-known squares (piazze) that everyone must see when they visit (Piazza Navona, Piazza San Pietro etc.). However, many of the Eternal City’s most beautiful and charming piazze don’t fall on the typical tourist-trodden paths and are woven throughout the smaller streets and neighborhoods.
These are often the most unexpected and delightfully surprising scenes to stumble into while you are exploring. So, keep an eye out for these piazze when you’re in town, and take note of whether you might want to plan a lunch, dinner, or stop of aperitivo as you take in each of their unique atmospheres.
⭐️Check out the details page on each of the below with notes from me that include specific recommendations at each piazza!

Rome, the "Eternal City", is a sprawling metropolis that's also a captivating open-air museum. Its history stretches back nearly 3,000 years, and its layers of empires, artistic achievements, and religious significance are everywhere you look.
Here's a quick description to whet your appetite for a visit:
- Geography:
Rome sits on the Tiber River in central Italy. It's built on seven hills, which is how it earned the nickname "The City of Seven Hills".
- History:
Once the capital of a mighty republic and empire, Rome's influence on Western civilization is undeniable. Its legacy is visible in its architecture, laws, and even languages spoken around the world today.
- Landmark:
The city is packed with iconic landmarks, from the awe-inspiring Colosseum, the ancient Roman forum, to the Vatican City, home to St. Peter's Square and the Sistine Chapel.
- Culture:
Roman culture is a vibrant blend of history, art, food, and religion. Be sure to explore the Trastevere neighborhood for a taste of authentic Roman life.
- Food:
When it comes to food, Rome is all about simple, fresh ingredients. Pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice) is a delicious and affordable Roman street food. Don't miss out on pasta dishes like cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper) or all'amatriciana (tomato sauce with guanciale, a cured pork cheek).
Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply a foodie, Rome has something to offer everyone. So pack your walking shoes and get ready to be dazzled by the Eternal City!
