Roma (eat + drink)

Roma (eat + drink)

Welcome to Rome! I know this city can be overwhelming, so I'm here to help! I've divided this guide in various sections (neighbourhood names). These are my favorite places to eat and drink in the Eternal City Please remember it is always best to make reservations while in Rome. If you show up to a restaurant and they are fully booked, they most likely send you away, there is no concept of waiting in line for the next table to free up in Rome (there are some exceptions like most pizza places) Tipping in restaurants is not expected, but it is always very much appreciated! Please remember that tips can only be left in cash so make sure to always have some smaller pieces on hand (it is also preferred when paying for small things like a coffee or water bottle in a bar)

Trastevere

Just across the river from Campo de Fiori and the Jewish Ghetto, the Trastevere neighborhood feels like its own little town. Small cobbled stoned streets which seem to go on forever, some of the most beautiful churches in the city and some of the most delicious restaurants. It changes a lot morning vs evening, so I would recommend coming here in the morning to get a feel for itā€™s true charm (and if you have the chance try to come back for dinner to see it at night!)

Bar San Calisto
@sophieminchilli
One of the few old fashioned coffe bars left in the center of Rome. Cheap prices, quick no frills breakfast. At night it gets popular with a younger crowd who comes here for cheap beer and cocktails

Osteria Der Belli Piras Valentino e C.
@sophieminchilli
Seafood focused family owned restaurant in the heart of Trastevere. The owner is from the island of Sardegna, so you will be able to find some dishes that are typical to that region as well. Don't miss out on their spaghetti with vongole (clams) and bottarga (dried fish roe). Such a memorable pasta dish!

Trattoria da Lucia
@sophieminchilli
Very small family owned trattoria in a small cobble-stoned alley tucked away from the crowds. Very small menu, it almost feels like eating in someone's home. They usually have all the classic Roman pastas available, plus a couple specials of the day. Meat and vegetable dishes also available. The menu is handwritten daily on a blackboard, the staff is super friendly and will help you navigate the menu

Enoteca Lā€™antidoto
@sophieminchilli
Natural wine bar with a small food menu that changed based not he season. They often have guest chefs come cook for a short period of time, so it's always fun to find different things on the menu. They don't sell wine by the glass, only the full bottle (if you don't finish it, you can take it home with you). Bar seating available, great for solo diners

FRENI E FRIZIONI
@sophieminchilli
One of Rome's most famous cocktail bars, I love coming here for either aperitivo (they have a set price if you want to have some snacks with your drink), or after dinner drinks. It fills up with locals standing outside with a cocktail or beer, especially on the weekends

Trattoria da Augusto
@sophieminchilli
Very old fashioned trattoria that really hasn't changed much since the 50's. They do not take reservations so try and come on a weekday, and be prepared to wait in line for about 30 min if you show up at peak meal time. I love their old fashioned menu which includes a special dish for each day of the week
