I'd like to recommend some hotels I've stayed at and some more. The hotel rankings are indicated by the number of ⭐️ symbols. Please use this as a reference. I added a few hotels I recommend but I have not stayed there. I picked them based on reviews from my friends, family, and the internet. "visited" shows where I've stayed at 11 hotels in Tokyo 8 hotels in Osaka 6 hotels in Kyoto 2 hotels in Okinawa 1 hotels in Ishikawa 1 hotels in Hiroshima ⚠️ I picked good or great quality hotel because I want you to truly enjoy the hotels in Japan. A guide to walk through some of the most well preserved post towns along the Nakasendo. The Nakasendo is the former highway that connected Kyoto to Tokyo during the Edo period (1603-1868). At this time the Feudal lords were forced to do a multi-week commute between the two cities. The ruling family forced the lords to spend every other year in Tokyo with their entire household. This was a nightmare of a yearly commute! The Nakasendo is a 540km route with 69 post towns along the route. Commuting lords and samurai would stop at the post towns to rest and eat during their long journey. Currently, many of the post towns have been modernized with the introduction of the railway line. A lot of the original paths used by the lords and samurai have been converted into roads.

Japan is a wierd and wonderful place thats brilliant to travel, but lets be real it can be tough for a vegetarian. How about a trip to traditional Japan while staying in the heart of modern Tokyo? This is a non-exhaustive list of what you can do in Asakusa; probably one of the greatest places in Tokyo! It is drenched in culture, offers amazing food, and despite being very touristy, it has one of the nicest ambiences of any places we've ever visited. We don't believe a map listing each place suffices. So, we have come up with a list of recommendations with explanations for everything.

A valley located 1.5 hours away from Tokyo Station. Great spot for a day trip into the mountains. The itinerary below should take a full day to complete at a leisurely pace. You can skip the two hikes and stay to the town and temples for a more relaxed trip. There is a Luup bike share rental port near the station and a another near Akigawa Base. Electric assist cycling is a good option if you are looking to speed up your trip even more.

Hakone is a popular hot springs destination with views across Lake Ashi of iconic Mt Fuji. Hakone can be seen as a day trip from Tokyo or (I'd recommend!) as an overnight in a traditional ryokan.

Please enjoy my free guide to the absolutely gorgeous Hokkaido. We spent two weeks driving around Hokkaido, and have compiled a list of most excellent restaurants, cafes, scenic scenery, and hotels. TRAVEL TIPS: Fly from Tokyo (Haneda Airport) to New Chitose Airport (the closest airport to Sapporo, and third largest airport in Japan). It takes less than 2 hours, and since it is a local flight, you only have to arrive 1 hour before you fly out. I recommend this route over the Shinkansen (bullet train) which will take much longer and will cost more money. CAR RENTAL: A free shuttle bus from the airport took us to the car rental location. We drove to Sapporo and stayed for a few days before embarking on this excellent summer roadtrip. Please note, renting a car in Hokkaido in the wintertime takes an experienced and skilled snow driver, so if this isn't you, I recommend leaving the driving to the summertime. GUIDE INDEX: 1.
