Where should I go for good French pastries in Charleston? As a Charlestonian who used to call Paris home, I get asked this question a lot. And while nothing hits like the first croissant fresh off a plane in Paris, there are some really great local, authentic options when it comes to French cafes and bakeries in Charleston.
This is probably a combined result of Charleston and France’s shared history and the fact the Holy City is now a top foodie destination. Charleston’s French influence dates back to the late 1600s and early 1700s when a large group of French Huguenots fled France and settled in this area. This French influence is still apparent in the city of Charleston’s historic architecture, and there is still a beautifully preserved French Quarter downtown (featured in my hidden alley walking tour), which is where the majority of the best French cafes are located in Charleston.
This is my curated list of the 5 best spots to enjoy authentic French pastries and soak up some authentic French ambiance while visiting downtown Charleston, South Carolina.

Nestled in the heart of France, Lyon is known as the country's culinary capital. This city brims with life and a wealth of attractions waiting to be explored. While it ranks among France's most significant urban centers, two days are often sufficient to take in its many offerings.
Lyon's unique charm stems from being traversed by two winding rivers, which bestow upon it a distinct allure. Multiple bridges gracefully connect the city's three main districts: the historic Old Town (Vieux Lyon), the peninsula known as Presqu'île, and the riverbanks on the right bank of the Rhône.
For a short stay, it's advisable to choose accommodations as centrally located as possible, ensuring easy access to the city's primary points of interest. While Lyon is mostly walkable, do keep in mind that it encompasses several hilly areas, particularly the Fourvière Hill. For those less inclined to undertake the uphill journey on foot, there's a cable car service available to ascend the heights.
Should you wish to extend your journey, Lyon harmoniously pairs with other destinations such as Paris, Dijon (and the Burgundy region), Geneva, and Annecy. Dive into this vibrant city where culinary expertise meets rich heritage, this city is a captivating blend of historical landmarks, vibrant neighborhoods, and a thriving cultural scene.
Please note that I'm offering this guide for free, so any tip is appreciated. Another way to support my work is by booking your accommodation via this guide, there's no extra cost for you and helps me a lot to continue creating guides like this. If you are interested in making a trip combining some other interesting cities in France, give me a call I can certainly help you plan it.

48 Hours in the Champagne Region of France (Visiting Reims & Epernay)
This is a guide for how to visit the Champagne region without a tour! There are so many group tours to the champagne region from Paris, but I strongly believed I could do it myself, and I was VERY successful. While group tours hold a lot of value for many people, I noticed group tours to champagne were quite expensive and there wasn't a lot of freedom to pick and choose what you wanted.
I created my own itinerary and we LOVED visiting this region and it was truly so easy! This will be an itinerary of what we did each day, where we stayed, where we ate and drank, and what we saw during our time in Reims & Epernay. I will also include at the end things I would do if I had more time... or should I say... WILL DO because I know we will return.
This itinerary involves taking the train from Paris but will also include other options. It includes a full day spent in Reims, France and a full day spent in Epernay. With 2 nights in a hotel in Reims. It will include a cost breakdown, where to make reservations, and some small gems we really loved!
I am also MORE than happy to consult with you about this itinerary to help you pick and choose what suits your needs.

2022 was the year of a lot of travel redemption for most of us, but it was also the year I had to turn down trips to Portugal, Spain, and Paris, as well as have a trip to New Orleans cancelled due to Covid. But thankfully that didn’t stop me from a spring road trip to Texas, a few summer days in DC, two trips to Disney World, and lots of Tennessee day trips in between. Enjoy this travel journal of 350 (!!!) places, including:
🖼️ 42 Museums, Gardens, and Attractions
☕️ 50 Coffee Shops
🍽️ 99 Restaurants, Bakeries, and Food Trucks
🛏️ 38 Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, and Airbnbs
✨ and a whole bunch more!

If you're looking for a city escape to live your European Summer dream, you've come to the right place! This is my 100% honest opinion of my 10 favorite European cities to visit in Summer.
I see lots and lots of guides out there suggesting Paris (hello, has someone heard of the Olympic Games taking place?), Madrid (if you love 45° weather I guess) or Lisbon (great choice if you want to be 1 or 100 000 tourists). While these are all great destinations year-round, I don't think Summer is the right season to visit them. Personally, I'd go there in Spring or Autumn, not during the high season.
Full disclosure, this is a no Greece, no Italy guide. You'll only find cities that I love, and I think are worth going to discover if you're looking for a short city-escape this Summer.
What will you find in this guide?
