The best Pastéis de Nata in Lisbon
How was Pastéis de Nata born?
Pastéis de Nata was once produced by the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém. After the Portuguese Liberal Revolution, in 1822, the monastery began selling these sweets for a living and when the monastery finally closed, it sold the recipe to the nearby Fábrica de Pastéis de Belém.
Today, pastéis de nata are available almost everywhere in every Portuguese bar. The original recipe is secret and kept by the Oficina do Segredo, located in the Fábrica dos Pastéis de Belém. The few holders of the original recipe solemnly swear not to make it public. Precisely for this reason, even if self-production is permitted, they can only be sold by calling the product pastel de nata, and not Pastel de Belém which can only be used for products from the Fábrica itself.

In order of preference🥰😋🤤
The taste of each one is difficult to remember, even though it was always the same sweet with almost similar flavors to each other. But the one I remember most compared to the others is that of the Pastéis de Belém patisserie which personally was the best! Warm, soft and hot sweet cream... I'll have a hard time getting them out of my head!
Now I open a challenge: on your trip to Lisbon, taste them all and let me know which one was the best for you! I'll wait for you..💌
