The V&A Cafe
@travelswithmissworldwide
The Victoria & Albert Museum holds the title of the oldest museum café in the world! It might be one of the most stunning cafés that I have ever seen. Opened in 1856, it continues to serve visitors today, just as it did when it was originally known as the "refreshment room," offering coffee, salads, and sandwiches during museum hours. The Garden Café, located at the heart of the museum, is perfect for those craving lighter bites. It’s also a fantastic spot for people-watching, and on a sunny summer day, you can watch children happily splashing in the sparkling water.

This iconic and surprisingly cozy pub, is a must see on your tour through London! Built in 1750, the pub was frequented by Churchill’s grandparents and is known for serving real ales and authentic Thai cuisine (one of my favourite cuisines). Just outside of the Northwest corner of Hyde Park, this stunningly decorated pub is one of London’s most recognizable and famous watering holes. The Blackfriar
@travelswithmissworldwide
This iconic medieval pub truly embodies the idea that there's more to discover than what first catches the eye. Established in 1875 during Queen Victoria's reign, the Black Friar sits on the site of a former priory and is named after the Dominican friars in their long black mantles. Despite its modern construction, the pub features a Grade II listed Arts and Crafts design. It was nearly demolished in the 1960s until poet Sir John Betjeman campaigned for its preservation, underscoring the importance of creativity in protecting history. Inside, the Black Friar beautifully reflects its Dominican heritage with impressive arches, carvings, and stained glass, complemented by cozy nooks and soft lighting. Sculptures and mosaics of cheerful black friars adorn the walls, creating a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to linger.
Just 122 meters (400 feet) from the Blackfriars tube station, this is a must-visit for all history enthusiasts!

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese
@travelswithmissworldwide
This is one of my all time favourite pubs that I have ever been to that a very dear family friend showed me. London should actually name the Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese a national treasure for its rich history!
A pub has occupied this site since 1538, but the current building was reconstructed in 1667 after the Great Fire of London. The vaulted cellars are believed to date back to a 13th-century monastery. The pub is historically known as the watering hole for numerous famous patrons, including Charles Dickens, Samuel Johnson, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mark Twain, P.G. Wodehouse, Voltaire, and Princess Margaret.
Plus, it's an intimate, cozy, stunningly layered, little time capsule of a pub! They also have a Chop House of staple British cuisine that I highly recommend you to indulge in. Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Famous Steak & kidney Suet Pudding is not to be missed out on.
This is yet another location that I would book ahead of time as to not miss out on this lovely experience! (See the website below for booking times)

Cahoots Postal Office
@travelswithmissworldwide
Alright, I’ve been gate keeping this local chain for far too long, but I’m finally letting you in on the secret! Cahoots Postal Office, just a short walk from the London Bridge tube stop, features a world-first pneumatic cocktail delivery system—you didn’t know you needed it, but trust me, you do. Stepping inside feels like being transported to 1940s wartime London, complete with vintage décor and a fun, immersive atmosphere.
Cahoots also has two other locations in Soho: Ticket Hall & Underground. True to the 1940s theme, Ticket Hall was originally a spot for black market hooch, and now it’s a modern-day pub serving a curated selection of draught beers, pale ales, cocktails, wines, and spirits.
Then there’s Cahoots Underground, which was once an air raid shelter beneath the Kingly Court Underground Station. This quirky refuge, filled with dusty lampshades, mismatched crockery, old toys, and piles of tinned food, offers a cozy escape from the bustle of the city. You can even relax on a vintage tube carriage or authentic underground seats while sipping a top-tier, bootleg-style cocktail. It’s a unique and unforgettable experience!

George
@travelswithmissworldwide
Only about a 2 minute walk from Borough Market, The George is the last surviving galleried inn throughout all of London. Built in 17th century, this inn has withstood the test of time, providing a welcoming social space for guests for over 300 years! It houses a really rare 18th century clock that was used by patrons to keep track of their coach times while they enjoyed a pint or two! Charles Dickens was also regular when the coffee house was in operation.
It now functions as a modern day pub and restaurant where you can grab a Sunday roast with you and your mates. If you are a history buff like me, this is definitely a sight you must indulge in while in London.

Mercato Mayfair
@travelswithmissworldwide
Mercato Mayfair is located on the historic site of St. Mark's Church, which was originally built between 1825 and 1828 to address the shortage of churches in the area. St. Mark's served as an Anglican place of worship until the congregation dwindled after the Second World War, leading to its deconsecration by the Church of England in 1974. From April 1994 to June 2014, it was briefly used by the Commonwealth Christian Fellowship (CCF) as a place of Christian worship.
After a careful restoration of its original stained glass windows, altar, and organ, the building was transformed into Mercato Mayfair, opening in 2019 as one of London’s most distinctive food hall experiences!

Victoria and Albert Museum
@travelswithmissworldwide
The V&A Museum is a beloved gem for countless reasons. Established in 1852 and named in honor of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, it’s one of my all-time favourite museums in London! As the world’s largest museum of applied arts, decorative arts, and design, it boasts a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects. The architecture is breathtaking, the history is fascinating, and it’s also home to one of the world’s first museum cafés.
If you look closely at the exterior, you’ll notice marks from the bombings during the Blitz of World War II (1939-1945). These scars are preserved as a tribute to the museum's resilience and enduring spirit during times of conflict. In 2017, sections of the damaged walls were removed, and new gates were installed to honor the war damage.
Inside and out, the V&A Museum is a testament to the rich history that flows through the streets of London. I HIGHLY recommend visiting this iconic museum during your time in the city. And if you’re lucky enough to visit on a warm, sunny day, be sure to spend some time in the John Madejski Garden in the heart of the museum—one of the most incredible spots in all of London.

Churchill War Rooms
@travelswithmissworldwide
As someone who loves delving into the history of a city, visiting Churchill's War Rooms was an unforgettable experience. Preserved as they were during WWII, these rooms served as Churchill’s secret underground headquarters. Opening its doors to the public in 1984, the museum includes the original Cabinet War Rooms and the wartime bunker where Churchill and his staff took shelter from August 1940 to June 1945.
These historic spaces once hummed with the energy of planning, strategy, and secrecy. Walking through the narrow corridors really brings the history to life, giving you a sense of the tense atmosphere that once filled these walls. For any history enthusiast like myself, this tour is a must. However, if you’re claustrophobic, you might want to skip this one, as the tour groups can be quite large and the space is fairly confined.

The National Gallery
@travelswithmissworldwide
Located in Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery is the UK’s premier public art gallery. Unlike many European museums, the National Gallery was not established by nationalizing an existing royal collection. It all began in 1824 when the British government purchased 38 paintings from the heirs of John Julius Angerstein.
Today, the gallery is a hub for visual art, education, and culture, housing over 150,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, photographs, prints, and drawings. The collection spans the history of Western art and showcases some of humanity’s greatest creative achievements. Highlights include masterpieces by renowned artists like Da Vinci, Botticelli, and Van Gogh. True to its founding principles, the museum remains free for the public, symbolizing the belief that art belongs to everyone and should be accessible to all.

St Dunstan in the East Church Garden
@travelswithmissworldwide
Nestled amidst the towering buildings of central London, St Dunstan in the East Church has endured the ravages of time. Originally constructed around 1100, the church saw a new south aisle added in 1391. It was repaired in 1631, but suffered severe damage during the Great Fire of London in 1666. Further destruction occurred during the Blitz (1940–1941), after which it was decided not to rebuild, leaving only the north and south walls standing. In 1967, the City of London Corporation transformed the church's ruins into a public garden, which opened to the public in 1971. The ruins tell a story of resilience—both beautiful and tragic. Today, the garden offers a peaceful retreat, where Londoners often relax with a coffee or enjoy their lunch breaks.

Royal Observatory Greenwich
@travelswithmissworldwide
This view is one of my absolute favourites in all of London! From the summit of the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, you can take in a stunning panorama that overlooks the iconic Royal Naval College, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the historic Prime Meridian. The Prime Meridian represents Longitude 0, the line that divides the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. It's not only a geographic landmark but also the birthplace of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), the system that revolutionized timekeeping around the world. This standardization of time had a profound impact on everything from navigation to the way global businesses operate, shaping modern society in ways that are still felt today.
The Royal Observatory itself has a fascinating history—once the site where astronomers like Sir George Everest (the namesake of Mount Everest) made groundbreaking discoveries. It also played a crucial role in establishing the global grid of longitude and latitude that makes accurate navigation possible.
If you're in the area, I highly recommend visiting during sunset. The view of the city bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun is truly magical, offering a perfect end to a day of sightseeing. Just be sure to check the time of sunset before you go, as it varies throughout the year, with the sun setting earlier in winter and later in summer.

Painted Hall
@travelswithmissworldwide
Often dubbed "Britain's Sistine Chapel," the Painted Hall in Greenwich attracts nearly 1.5 million visitors annually—though that’s still a far cry from the 6 million who visit the Sistine Chapel in Rome! Designed by Sir James Thornhill and painted between 1707 and 1726, the Painted Hall spans over 3,700 square meters of stunning Baroque frescoes on both walls and ceilings. There are benches throughout the hall where you can lie back and gaze up at the awe-inspiring artwork, immersing yourself in the grandeur of the Baroque era.
For me, this was one of the most unforgettable experiences in London. I still vividly recall the sense of awe that swept over me as I admired the paintings, losing myself in the beauty for what felt like an hour. It’s an experience that truly transports you into another time and place. Though entry requires a ticket, don't forget that students can enjoy a discount!

Believe it or not, this market is open everyday of the week from 8.00-19.00(7pm) and is one of the most famous markets in the world! From vintage finds, to street food, to hidden treasures, Portobello has something for everyone!
I actually stumbled upon Portobello Road by chance while trying to meet a friend for dinner during a train strike in London. Electric Cinema
@travelswithmissworldwide
The Electric Cinema in Notting Hill first opened its doors on 24 February 1910, making it one of the earliest buildings in Britain designed specifically for motion picture screenings and one of the first in the area to be powered by electricity. It was built just two months after its namesake in Birmingham, which opened slightly earlier. At the time, the cinema had no facilities for sound, as it predated the advent of "talkies" by 18 years. Its inaugural film, Henry VIII, was screened on 23 February 1911, cementing its place as one of the oldest continuously operating cinemas in Britain. In 1993, it became the first black-owned cinema in the UK, a status it maintained until its sale in 2000.
Rich in history and brimming with 20th-century design, the Electric Cinema offers a truly unique experience for anyone visiting London after a day of sightseeing.
