PARIS - A Free Guide Map for a perfect short stay !

You have planned a short stay in the Capital, I got you covered with the 'Essentials' to visit and some tips to enjoy your stay ;) This list will cover 3 to 4 days. I have added few other sites at the end of the list for those who have the chance to stay longer. I have listed the places in order, so you can walk from an area to another (or catch the metro) and not miss a thing! I have included few restaurants and cafés but if you want more options, feel free to have a look at my guide only dedicated to food and drinks with 50+ places that I have personnally tested - link below.

The 18th Arrondissement:

Montmartre, the Sacré-Coeur Basilica and around... It is definitely there that you will get the typical Parisian vibe. Explore the lanes, makes a stop for a coffee, take the time to look at the little shops to find some souvenirs (and not just the touristy kind).

This is where I would start the visit of Montmartre. Stop at the Metro 'Abbesses' and start exploring this area. You will find some little shops to buy some real souvenirs.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris

This Basilica located on the hill of Montmartre is not only amazing to visit, but from there, the view on Paris is absolutely stunning! Locals often comes there during summer to look at the sunset, have a drink and just chill around. Stop at the metro Blanche, Pigalle or Abbesses and walk your way up ! You can also get the Funiculaire to ease things up.

An absolute MUST DO! Montmartre is a neighborhood, this is the hill where you will find the Sacré-Coeur Basilica. It looks like a litlle village with its little streets, restaurants, cafés and little shop.

The 9th Arrondissement:

This area is famous for the variety of activities: Pigalle, Moulin Rouge, restaurants, cafés, bars and also sex-shops. Don't be offended by the amount of sex-shops on the main street, this area has one of the biggest concentration of nice restaurants.

This Cabaret offers a show that I would not especially recommend to see as I find it expensive and really touristy but the building itself needs to be seen as it is unique in its kind. Makes sure to pass by at night as it looks magic.

Pigalle

The area of Pigalle is well known for its sex-shop and theatres but you will find also here some lovely streets, various excellent restaurants and bars.

Galeries Lafayette Haussmann

This shopping centre is actually in the 8th arrondissement and even if you don't plan any shopping, the building itself is worth a visit, especially the Coupole! If you are in Paris in December, don't miss the Chritmas decoration in the windows and the enormous Christmas tree. You will find there few restaurants and cafés if you want to make a stop.

Galeries Lafayette Maison

The pictures speaks for itself... I highly recommend to make a stop in the 'Maison' section, on the ground floor, for lunch or for some shopping. You will find therer the finest food: macarons, truffle based products, pastries, etc.

Boulevard Haussmann

While you are around the Galeries Lafayette, just have a glance at the building architecture of this street. You will find the same features around Paris. This type of building has been created by an Architect namesd Haussmann. Very elegant and prestigious, this architecture makes all the beauty fo the city.

Palais Garnier

The Opera is one of my favourite landmark, just from the outside the building is absolutely gorgeous. If you can, makes sure to arrange a visit or attend an Opera if you are an amateur.

The 1st Arrondissement:

You will find there some of the most prestigious landmarks of Paris: the Louvre, Les Tuileries, les Halles, the Marais area, etc.

Initially hated by the Frenchies, it is now one of the most famous landmark of the city.

The collection is absolutely amazing, from the Egyptian antiquity to the Mona Lisa, you won't have time to see everything in one day. It is still a MUST DO, I only advise to select some sections prior your visit.

Tuileries Garden

Have a stroll in this beautiful garden. If you have children, you will find here some playgrounds. You can walk until the end of the gardens to find the Concorde square and its obelisk.

This luxurious square include some of the most luxurious shops. It is worth a detour to see the Christmas lights in december.

If you want to walk from the Louvres to the St-Louis island where you will find Notre-Dame de Paris, I highly recommend to walk by the river.

This iconic area is another favorite for restaurants, cafés, bars, shopping or just a walk. Another place where you can shop some souvenirs. I would recommend to go on a Sunday as it is quieter and has a nice atmosphere.

The 7th Arrondissement:

The highlight is the Eiffel Tower. Here are few tips to have some amazing pictures while amazing the crowd.

You can't come to Paris without seeing the Eifeel Tower. Beautiful by night with its light, I wouln't recommend to walk at night close to the tower as it is a bit rough near by (and full of pickpockets and different kind of thieves).

The 8th Arrondissement:

The Arc de Tromphe... I would recommend to go there with the metro as it is a bit far from everything else.

The prison taken over by the French people at the start of the French revolution was standing just here. Nothing much to see nowadays but you can still notice some marks on the floor to show were the wall were.

A cemetary indeed... with celebrities. It is also a very quiet space (as you can imagine) where a lot of Parisians go for a walk on the week-end while admiring the tomb stones of famous writers (Oscar Wilde, Molière), Actors and Singers/Musicians (Edith Piaf, Jim Morrison)

If you want to get something quick after visiting the Louvres, this delicious bakery has sandwiches. Try also any of their cakes or 'viennoiseries'. My favourite bakery for croissants or pains au chocolat! You will find some everywhere in the city!
