2022 was the year of a lot of travel redemption for most of us, but it was also the year I had to turn down trips to Portugal, Spain, and Paris, as well as have a trip to New Orleans cancelled due to Covid. But thankfully that didn’t stop me from a spring road trip to Texas, a few summer days in DC, two trips to Disney World, and lots of Tennessee day trips in between. Porto is a beautiful city in the north of Portugal: also called “the capital of the North”. In 2014 as a junior in college, I was roped into a two-month summer trip to Istanbul, Turkey. Growing up loving travel but struggling with history, I had no clue what I was getting into—I couldn’t even show you Turkey on a map. So it came as a complete surprise that 60 days in this city would make me more familiar with it than my own hometown and grow a love I didn’t know was possible. One of the things that is so great about Australia? Whatever the Australians do, it seems to be impossible for them to disappoint you when it comes to coffee ☕. They simply have the best coffee in the world. Even at places where you might expect the worst. Although, do not take my opinion as a fact; I have not been everywhere yet, but from my experience and the shared opinions of other people I met throughout my travels, it could be true. So, when the coffee is good, we start paying attention to the details. How is the presentation? Is there beautiful latte art? Does my to-go cup look cute? All totally unrelated to the quality of the coffee. But let’s be honest right here: we all think coffee tastes better when there is a beautifully designed swan in our cup.
