Australia | Favourite coffee spots along the East Coast 🇦🇺

Jessica van Meeteren
One of the things that is so great about Australia? Whatever the Australians do, it seems to be impossible for them to disappoint you when it comes to coffee ☕. They simply have the best coffee in the world. Even at places where you might expect the worst. Although, do not take my opinion as a fact; I have not been everywhere yet, but from my experience and the shared opinions of other people I met throughout my travels, it could be true. So, when the coffee is good, we start paying attention to the details. How is the presentation? Is there beautiful latte art? Does my to-go cup look cute? All totally unrelated to the quality of the coffee. But let’s be honest right here: we all think coffee tastes better when there is a beautifully designed swan in our cup. That’s why this map of recommendations focuses on the coffee places along the East Coast that provide that little extra. The ones that will make you remember drinking that delicious latte and make you want to visit them again. This map is for the traveler who, just like me, is exploring the highlights of the East Coast at a quick pace and does not want to waste one single cup of coffee along the journey. 📍 Covered destinations in this map: Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay, Noosa.

Melbourne

Axil Coffee Roasters
@jessicavanmeeteren
This is the first coffee I have tried in Australia! According to a folder in my hotel room, Axil Coffee serves the best in Melbourne, so without a doubt this was my first stop in the city. Luckily for everyone, Axil Coffee does not have just one location, but it spread all over the city!

This is one of those places you will only find when you explicitly look it up. I made it easy for you, in case you are in the neighbourhood, you do not have to look further, I promise you will enjoy this coffee!

Sydney

Cali Press Bondi Beach
@jessicavanmeeteren
Only a few steps away from the famous Bondi Beach, you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee while sitting at the open window bar, watching the people walking barefoot, holding on to their surfboards, ready for their first waves. But... 🌟 TIP: Coffee is not their only specialty. Cali Press serves delicious meals, from sandwiches, to bowls and my personal favourite: THE SMASH. 🥑 If you can appreciate a good smashed avocado toast for breakfast, brunch or any other time of the day, just like I do... I promise you, do not look any further! I have tried many avocado toasts in my life and this place serves by far one of the best ones!

Bare Naked Bowls Bondi Beach
@jessicavanmeeteren
The delicious coffee they serve here is not the only reason why this gem has to be shared with you all. The name of this place already gives it away... 🌟 TIP: My friends are still dreaming about the art they create here: açai bowl!

Caffe Gigi
@jessicavanmeeteren
To me, drinking my first sip of coffee in the morning is a moment of peace. A moment completely to myself. Special about this place, is without a doubt the location. Whether you sit on their terrace or order it to-go, being surrounded by gorgeous views over The Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, gives you a feeling of appreciation. This particular moment to myself, sitting at, what seems to be "only" a kiosk, brought me the realisation of how far I have come and gone. Therefore, I want to share this spot with you. So just like I did, sit down and watch the people around you, all rushing and busy with what is going on in their own lives. Use this moment and this grandiose view, to enjoy, to live and to appreciate the exact moment you are in.

Byron Bay

Combi Byron Bay
@jessicavanmeeteren
From miles away, you can notice that Combi focuses on quality. Besides their coffee, they know exactly how to create a cosy atmosphere that makes you want to stay instead of ordering a to-go. 🌟 TIP: Banana bread. Not only is this one of the best tasting ones I have ever eaten, they serve their banana bread as if it is a piece of art!

Wide Open Road Cafe
@jessicavanmeeteren
One of the reasons why this cafe is still stuck with me, is their to-go cup design. At many places you will just get a basic white cup, but here they actually put effort in the design. This made me wanna buy my to-go latte here more often!

The Byron Bay General Store
@jessicavanmeeteren
If you wanna escape the crowded area, The Byron Bay General Store is your spot. Not only for a good cup of coffee, their menu has many vegan options and it is delicious. Besides, they have some pretty cool merchandise for sale. 🌟 TIP: Vegan buckwheat waffle! I usually get hesitant when it comes to vegan dishes, but I absolutely recommend this!

Fishheads at Byron Bay
@jessicavanmeeteren
Fishheads was the place I usually went to for coffee, right before or right after surfing. It has the perfect location next to beach, overlooking the ocean. Besides the restaurant, which has an atmospheric interior, they also have take-out. It is not the typical cafe, but it is absolutely worth it to try their coffee. 🌟 TIP: Sweet potato fries. Maybe not the greatest combination with coffee.. but it is extremely good here!

@jessicavanmeeteren
This cafe is located on Hastings Street, the cute main street next to the beach, and the perfect to-go right before or after your surf!
