YES Rome's Colosseum, Sistine Chapel and Pantheon undoubtedly impress with their grandeur and magnificence HOWEVER, Rome has many hidden gems beyond the typical tourist attractions that will allow you to discover lesser-known, yet equally fascinating, attractions.
Stepping away from the beaten path will grant you a chance to savor the city's authentic atmosphere and experience a different side of it, free from the bustling crowds, tour groups and crazy tourists that usually dominate the major sites.
Here in this guide, as a local living in Italy, I’ve shared with you a list of my favorite unconventional and captivating experiences to indulge in while in Rome. For any questions or further information don't hesitate to contact me here or on my personal email: meggybianchini@gmail.com

THE DAY-BY-DAY GUIDE TO A PERFECT INTRODUCTION TO ROME 🇮🇹
I've been fortunate enough to visit Rome multiple times and even more fortunate to have been guided by true Italian friends. Here I take all that I've learned from those travels and distill it into one perfect 3-day introduction.
This itinerary is perfect for someone visiting Rome for the first time and then continuing on to other parts of Italy for the rest of your trip. You'll visit all the truly must-see sights like the Colosseum and the Vatican, but you’ll do so at a pace that won’t make you exhausted and miserable.
Generally I recommend that people spend even longer in Rome (because there’s just *so much* to see here), but I know the stats say 3 days is really typical. I completely understand. Europe is expensive and you want to make the most of your trip. But, I think you'll find that these 3 days barely scratch the surface of the Eternal City, and you'll be itching to come back to see (and eat) everything Rome has to offer!

Here's my itinerary for a 9-day trip interrailing Italy! In this guide you will see the top places to stay, eat and drink in Florence (2 days), Rome (3 days), Pompeii (1 day) and Positano (3 days). The itinerary stops in key regions of Italy, allowing you to experience the cultural and foodie regional differences of Italy.
The best time of year to go is September, as it won't be packed with people on their summer holidays but is still hot! By the end of this itinerary, I guarantee you will be almost entirely made of pasta and pizza.

THE DAY-BY-DAY GUIDE TO A PERFECT WEEK IN ROME 🇮🇹
I've been fortunate enough to visit Rome multiple times and even more fortunate to have been guided by true Italian friends. Here I take all that I've learned from those travels and distill it into one perfect week.
This itinerary is great whether you've been to Rome before or are returning and hoping to explore some new spots. You'll visit classics like the Colosseum and the Vatican (where I still find something new to drop my jaw every time I go) as well as more underrated places that most tourists mistakenly skip in a rush to see other parts of Italy.
With that in mind, you'll notice this itinerary is a full 7 days. I see this as the minimum to truly see Rome. Many people only spend 2-3 days here, and I completely understand. Europe is expensive and you want to make the most of your trip. If that's you, this itinerary can still help - just pick your favorite days. Or, check out the 3-day itinerary I've created and linked below. But, I think you'll find that even a full 7 days barely scratches the surface of the Eternal City, and you'll be itching to come back to see (and eat) everything Rome has to offer!

This itinerary provides highlights of "The Big 3" in Italy - connecting to each city utilizing the wonderful Italian railway.
It is a 12-day itinerary and provides tour recommendations, hotel recommendations as we well as some great restaurants and bars to check-out. Also included, a day trip out to Cinque Terre.
This itinerary is based on a trip we did back in October of 2019 with friends of ours. Some updates have been added based on client trips I have booked to Italy since then, and include some of their recommendations.
Please enjoy!
