Rome is a big city with a lot of history, art, and food but sometimes you can't see everything and your time there is limited. My time there indeed was for one full day, and I'm excited to show you my path.

A Day in Rome in the Summer

As my stay was at the hotel Domus Popolo, the plan is made such that it starts with the Vatican City and then goes down through most of central Rome and it's main landmarks. 

The Domus Popolo is at the top of the most common area next to the Piazza del Popolo and the Villa Borghese:

After that the Sistine Chapel is a must see! Famous paintings and statues of Botticelli, Michelangelo, and of course the last supper of Leonardo Da Vinci are there and many more.

After a lot of walking and going out to the hot weather, a gelato is always good to indulge. In front of the Sistine chapel and the Vatican Museums there is a restaurant with a gelato stand called Caffe Vaticano.

The next destination is Piazza Navona. From the Vatican city it's 25 minutes walk or a bus is also optional. 

The next main landmark is the Trevi Fountain within an 8-minute walk. If you would like to come back to Rome and breathe in more of what Rome has to offer, I recommend tossing a coin to the fountain so it promises you will return. 

Before I start it's highly important to have these few items when you visit Rome in the summer. Rome is very humid and hot and if you don't take care of yourself it will ruin your experience.

Put this list in check and then your ready to go!

You can walk for 20-30 minutes to the Vatican City, Or take the metro from Flaminio station to Ottaviano Station but then you will miss the view of the Tiber river and the architecture.

After the Piazza Navona is a four minute walk to the pantheon which is completely free.

From there towards the end of your journey and the day you will go south to the area of the Roman Forum. In my opinion, I would stop to look at the Monument of Vittorio Emanuele the 2nd, and if you have power climb up the steps to see an amazing view of Rome.

From there walking on via dei Fori Imperiali you will se the roman forum. In my opinion you don't need to pay to walk inside the Roman Forum,  you see a lot from the streets above. 

The last monument that you will see is the famous Colosseum. It's very hard not see. By then the sunset will hit the walls of the Colosseum and it's spectacular.

From there you have a metro twice to take you back to your hotel. On the second metro there is a station that is next to the Trevi fountain if you would like to see it again in the evening and at at a restaurant. Make sure to save yourselves a table in advance.
