We took the leap, booked a 2.5 month trip, and found ourselves enchanted by the country. Montenegro is probably the MOST underrated European country. Located in the Balkans by the Adriatic sea, most people would choose Croatia or Greece over Montenegro. Why pick Montenegro instead? Because it's way less touristic and cheaper than its neighbors. And despite its small size, it has it all! From picturesque coastlines with centuries old towns to Alpine mountains and waterlily filled lakes, Montenegro doesn't disappoint. And because of its small size, it's possible to see its highlights in 7 days, from North to South. This guide is best suited for road trip enthusiasts and avid travelers who want to see as much as possible in a limited time and on a budget. There is little time for relaxation, expect to be exploring and driving every day (on average 3 hours per day), but it will be absolutely worth it! For convenience reasons, this itinerary starts and ends in Dubrovnik, Croatia, right at the border with Montenegro. This guide includes a detailed 7 days itinerary based on my own road trip done in 2021, with cheap accommodation recommandations, places to eat, activities, sight suggestions and even hidden gems! While its neighbor Croatia gets a lot of attention among world travelers, Montenegro is a personal favorite of the places I've traveled to over the years! My husband and I were looking at places to go for our anniversary one day, hoping for a mix of what we both love when we travel. I love a world-renowned art, history, or science museum as much as the next girl, but these smaller, unique, and quirky museums have a special place in my heart. I hope they make their way into yours too!

This is an absolutely beautiful place on beautiful water, not to mention an UNESCO world heritage site. If you're here with your dog, I would recommend some early morning walkies to beat the heat in the summer months as well as the traffic. The roads are very narrow and most of the time without sidewalks (depending on where you're staying). The water is beautiful turquoise blue, cool and most of the time very calm. Perfect for jumping in and cooling off, or just hanging out with your neighbors.
