Rotorua - a town on the North Island that is well known for its geothermal activity and Māori culture. There’s so much to see from 30m tall Geysers and bubbling mud pools, to a living Māori village! Taupō - located near the centre of North Island and known for its lake front setting on Lake Taupō. The lake is actually a volcanic caldera that drains into Huka Falls, which is a must see while in the area!! We spent two weeks living in Reporoa doing “WWOOFING” and it gave us free accommodation, food every afternoon and two days a week to travel the area and see as much as possible! Oban, Scotland is the beginning of the journey to the Inner Hebridean which includes the Isle of Mull, Iona, and many other small islands. My family and I had decided to rent a car and drive from Edinburgh. It is definitely intense to drive on the wrong side. But, you get used to it after a day or so. Otherwise, to get to Oban, you can take a train from Edinburgh. Oban is a small city with a cute main street filled with restaurants and touristy shops. Even though we had a car, we decided to use a ferry/bus tour. You will want to book a ferry/bus tour to the Isle of Mull, Iona, and Staffa. Be prepared for rain, rain, and more rain. We went at the end of June and it was a miserable, rainy, cold day. But enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the history of the people.
