Over the past few years, Iceland has been getting more and more popular by tourists. Nicknamed the Land of Fire and Ice because of its many volcanoes and glaciers, there are endless opportunities of gorgeous natural wonders to explore. Over 60% of the people that live in Iceland, live in the capital city of Reykjavik. If you are not renting a car to avoid the intimidation of the slippery roads during winter, all of the activities below can be done right in Reykjavik or by a tour with transfer. This guide is a detailed 10 day itinerary with an interactive map showing over 80 locations that we visited on our road trip; months of preparation and planning went into the creation of this. The travel locations include destinations around the Ring Road, locations in the Snæfellsnes peninsula/ Snæfellsjökull National Park, as well as Landmannalauger in the Icelandic highlands. It includes recommended items to pack, cost of camper van and flights, locations and the time needed to travel between each location, how long we spent at each location (when relevant), links to restaurants we visited, and campsites that we stayed at throughout the trip. I first visited Iceland 3 years ago after getting an internship out of nowhere. And since then I been coming back year after year discovering the country more and falling in love even deeper. Iceland is the crazy combination of fire and ice, pure nature, crazy landscape and unbelievably welcoming people. You can either choose a budget version with camping or be more comfortable with apartments on the way. For example, if you were to travel with a friend the cheapest option would be renting 4x4 and camping with your own tents. Above is a picture of my dad and I snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of the Sifra rift in between two tectonic plates. Snorkeling is one of my favorite memories from our 10 day father-daughter trip to Iceland in June 2022. I’ve used our experience to develop a family friendly itinerary with activities that entertain from energetic teenager to an adult in their 50s. This itinerary includes a full 10 day plan with a packing list and links to companies that we tested and used including: rib boats, the blue lagoon, geysers, puffins, whale watching, snowmobiling on glaciers, snorkeling Sifra, hotels, and restaurants.
