Srinagar -
Srinagar is the gateway to Kashmir and it should be the first stop to move ahead anywhere, even if you don’t spend much time in the city. Srinagar is accessible by road and flight that operates frequently from Delhi and even a few other major cities.
To me, Srinagar had this dreamy feeling of a mesmerizing shikara ride on the dal lake with snow-capped mountains in the background. To be honest, I was fairly disappointed. It’s not that this is not true. But for the most part, Srinagar looks like any other city in India and parts of it resembles old Delhi city and even Lucknow with crowded streets, traffic jams, loud and boisterous people and the wafting smell of delicious food.
If you have come in search of the real Kashmir, I would suggest finishing up your sightseeing in Srinagar quickly and head ahead as soon as you can.
