Iceland 4 Day Road Trip
Day 1
After landing into Keflavik International Airport like we did at 6am, drive to Bakarameistarinn for a quick breakfast to refuel for your day. This bakery was surprisingly delicious! I got the omelet sandwich and it was tasty, Eamon got the ham and cheese sandwich that made him happy.
Next stop: Thingvellir National Park (start of the Golden Circle)
Thingvellir National Park is a captivating natural wonder nestled in the heart of Iceland. With its breathtaking landscapes and rich historical significance, the park stands as a testament to the country's geological and cultural heritage. Located on the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, Thingvellir showcases the dramatic results of their shifting and separating. Visitors can witness the awe-inspiring Almannagjá fissure, where the plates have created a stunning rift valley. Moreover, Thingvellir holds great cultural significance as the site of Iceland's ancient parliamentary assembly, the Althing, established in 930 AD. Stepping foot in this national park means immersing oneself in both the natural wonders and historical legacy that make Iceland truly extraordinary.
