The Southwest United States generally refers to Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and the surrounding areas of the states surrounding those states. Due to the vast amount of untouched land in each of these states, there is ample opportunity for camping and exploring. This list has our favorite free campsites in the area, for those of you who just want to hit the road and relax in the desert. Many of these camps are owned and operated by the Bureau of Land Management. Be sure to always practice Leave No Trace when camping in a free campground, as they often don’t have the level of maintenance supplied by paid campsites.

This week, we find ourselves surrounded by trees and mountains in Prescott, Arizona. Every year, I visit this town for amazing food and drink, vehicle service, and memorable backcountry adventure. At Summit 4x4 Company, our Winnebago Revel gets an ARB air compressor kit from Agile Off-Road. I talk about my transmission preference, Hi-Lift Jacks, awnings, and the Land Rover gets a set of tow rings. I explore some gnarly tracks in the Defender and stumble upon some impressive waterfalls!

In this episode of venture4wd, we are based outside of Sedona, Arizona. I take the Land Rover deep into the backcountry to do some exploring away from the popular tourist areas. There, I experience spectacular landscapes among red rocks and ponderosa pines. This board contains points-of-interest and mixed media from our travels relating to V15E12.

Adventure is afoot! This week, we venture into Coconino National Forest to explore the backcountry around Sedona, where the Arizona landscape shows off its most vibrant colors. Mother nature tests my resolve as I endure a windy evening in the ground tent. The Land Rover Defender 110 traverses Schnebly Hill Road with grace and aplomb as inconsequential bits fall off. The episode concludes with a picturesque hike along the Hangover Trail.

We leave Tucson, and start traveling north in the Land Rover Defender 110 and the Revel, but things are off to a rough start. This episode kicks off at Basha's, which is weird, followed by a hike to the top of Picacho Peak. After troubleshooting a problem with the truck, I head off into the desert to explore near Wickenburg, Arizona. Some delicious food is featured in this episode, and I also demonstrate improper use of a soft-shackle.

We venture further into the desert in the Land Rover Defender 110 Hi-Cap, settling in for the week near Ajo, Arizona. I set off into Organ Pipe National Monument to go on a mountain hike, featuring a stunning natural arch. I take the truck out to do some exploring in the lovely Sonoran Desert. Following windy conditions and a rough night in the ground tent, I retreat back to the Winnebago Revel, spill coffee, and spend the day in bed, grumpy and high-maintenance. Orangie update toward the end of video!

I first learned about Havasupai through Instagram in 2015 and when I saw the pictures I thought “there is no way the water is that color blue!” But to my surprise, the water really is that color! It looks like water you’d find in the Caribbean, except you’re in the middle of the Grand Canyon! The gorgeous, sought-after waterfalls are located in the small village of Supai, Arizona.
This guide covers everything you need to know about backpacking to Havasupai including, permit information, campgrounds, and more!

For the past couple of years, Sarah, my best friend from college, and I have planned a girls trip in the winter months. It's one of my favorite weekends of the year. This year's trip was to Sedona, Arizona over the first weekend in March!
Unfortunately, we got a little unlucky with the weather as it snowed 8 inches the night before we flew. They typically only get a couple of inches all winter so unfortunately, it meant it was too wet to hike most of the area.
But we didn't let a little snow hold us back! We still tried a few hikes and explored the area. Here's everything we did over three days in Sedona. Everything in this guide has been tried and vetted by yours truly!
As always, I'm happy to help you plan a custom itinerary for your trip to Sedona! Just reach out to me directly (:

Looking to explore Ireland down the country road less traveled? The west of Ireland is the perfect place to unplug, unwind and experience the true heart of Ireland.
I love traveling as much as I possibly can and live by two travel rules. Firstly, I have to have at least one trip booked at all times and secondly, I have to visit at least one new place each year. I went on my first flight at two-weeks old (to Ireland funnily enough) and I’ve been back to visit every year since. It’s the only exception I make to rule #2.
I’m a third culture kid meaning I was raised in a country other than where my parents were raised. I was born in London to an Irish mother (who was born in Arizona but raised in Ireland) and an English father (who was born and raised in Singapore). We moved to Connecticut when I was 6, Hong Kong when I was 13 and back to Connecticut when I was 15. In an effort to keep my brothers and I in touch with our maternal Irish roots, we spent eight-weeks each summer on the west coast of Ireland in Spanish Point, County Clare.
Spanish Point is a little seaside village along the Wild Atlantic Way about 45 minutes from Shannon Airport named after two boats part of the Spanish Armada that shipwrecked off the coast in 1588. It’s a perfect little spot to retreat to with lush, green, rolling hills, breathtaking cliffs, freshest air, and friendliest people. There are so many things to do within a ~30-minute drive from Spanish Point making it the perfect place to stay without spending too much time stuck in the car.
There is so much to see in this tiny but wonderful country and you might feel pressured to bop all over the place to squeeze in as much as you possibly can. If you take anything away from this piece, it's to lean into slow travel. Ireland is the perfect place to enjoy the journey instead of just the destination, immerse yourself in local culture and connect with charming locals. Plan your trip to have no real set agenda at all. You’ll be so surprised at what you stumble upon.

This chapter of venture4wd kicks off in Tucson, Arizona, in early 2022, where I purchase a knackered 1991 Land Rover Defender 110. It concludes in Portland, Oregon, where I pick-up my beloved Jeep, Orangie, which was sidelined last year for repairs.

Welcome to the most geographically diverse country in the world, the U.S.A.! This guide is written based off of a road trip that we took in late 2020. The full itinerary is a little over three weeks (23 days, 22 nights), starting and finishing in Orlando (where we were living at the time).
The best part about the itinerary? It's a loop! Allowing you to start and finish wherever. This itinerary is 100% personalizable and as many stops can be added or removed as you'd like. This route offers some amazing places, including the beaches in Florida, the deserts of the southwest, and the coastlines of California.
The most optimal time to take this road trip is during the summer as you'll find the best weather everywhere. But because we're mainly down south, you can take this road trip in the winter without too much trouble in the snow.
This itinerary includes 15 states, nine National Parks, 6000+ miles, and all of the costs we incurred along the way. This itinerary also includes things to see, places to eats, and our favorite things in each location. This itinerary does not include overnight accommodation, so it is necessary to find hotels/airbnbs on your own.
