Breathe Paris in, it nourishes the soul 🌿
Today, come on an adventure on Victor Hugo's path in Paris! Revisit Paris through his eyes while you discover his Parisian homes, his favorite restaurants and theaters and the places that inspired him 👀
Victor Hugo is the inevitable man of the century in Paris: you simply cannot miss him, for he was everywhere, crossing the lines in every literary genres and in politics too. He wrote some of the most important pages of French literature, including Notre-Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), The Miserables and many many poems and plays. Before everyone, he also fought against death penalty, child-labor and for the protection of old Paris: not bad for an old white-bearded man...
And he was in love with Paris 💛
Through his eyes, Paris comes alive with unique characters and history writes itself on the buildings and through the little narrow streets. Walking with him is the promise of discovering another face of Paris, with Cosette, Quasimodo and Esmeralda as guides 🤝
So, if you felt sorry for the poor hunchback of Notre-Dame, you sing Les Miz in your car or loves romantic plays: this is the guide for you! 🎉

Out of all the places I adore in France, Nice and its surrounding areas truly has my heart. This is where I dream of retiring.
You're still very much in France - BUT: The people are noticeably friendlier than in Paris (no shade to Parisians, I love them too), the weather is delightful, the beaches are gorgeous, and the food has a lighter, Mediterranean flair (as opposed to the heavy dairy-based recipes typical in much of France).
If 6 days sounds like a lot to you, never fear: This itinerary uses Nice as a home base and includes many day-trip options.
Guide includes:
📍 High Level Plan
✨ General Tips
🍅 7 Food & Drinks Not to Miss
🧼 7 Souvenir or Gift Ideas
🍴 10 restaurant/bar recs in Nice (5 cheaper, 3 mid-range, 2 higher end)
🗒️ 6-day Itinerary: 3 days in Nice (including arrival & departure days, and 1 full-day in Nice with two morning options & 2 afternoon options), and 3 days for half-day trips, full-day trips, or a free day*
🗺️ 7 additional options for your half or full-day trips from Nice or for your free day
💚 Pro Tips
*I suggest 1 full-day trip, 1 day split between 2 half-day trips, and 1 day of free time. These do not overlap with the 7 additional options for half and full-day trips,
You also get:
✍️ My personal notes for each recommendation
📍 An interactive map of all recommendations
🔓 Access to all future updates (I love Nice and keep going back)
🎞️ Linked videos (where applicable) that bring recommendations and advice to life
💙 If you love this guide, I would really appreciate it if you shared it with a friend, left a great review, or contributed a tip.

Paris, the "City of Lights", is the capital and most populous city of France. It is situated on the Seine River in Île-de-France, in the north-central part of the country.
Paris is widely regarded as one of the world's most important global cities and one of the world's major centers for finance, diplomacy, commerce, fashion, science, and the arts. Paris is also known for its museums, including the Louvre, which houses some of the world's most famous works of art, such as the Mona Lisa. The city is also home to world-renowned landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and Notre Dame Cathedral.
Here are some other interesting facts about Paris:
- Paris is the fourth-largest city in the European Union.
- The Paris Region, which includes the city of Paris and its suburbs, has the highest GDP in the European Union.
- Paris is a major center for tourism, with over 40 million visitors each year.
- The city is known for its romantic atmosphere and its beautiful architecture.

Boulangeries are a dime a dozen in Paris, yet these ones really stand out!
Guide includes:
💎 5 Gems
➡️ 3 Parisian "mini-chains" that are very well-loved!
FYI: These are all on the right bank, because I've lived in various neighborhoods on this side of Paris since 2016! But the mini-chains will have some locations on the left bank, too.

I could never understand why people raved about Paris so much, until I went back more than once and slowly started to appreciate its beauty. Having been there in all the seasons, I can finally say: Paris mon amour.
Is it messy? Yes! Is it chaotic? Yes! But it's also beautiful, charming, romantic, and there's always something going on of course. If you don't like it the first time then don't give up, give it another go.

This is the exact itinerary I put together for my wife and I during our first Eurotrip. Paris was our second stop from starting in London. Why no Louvre? You could spend an entire day there to appreciate all of the art and given our limited time I thought it best to save the Louvre for a return trip when the weather wasn't as nice. I used my network of people who have lived in Paris and visited before to curate the ultimate first Paris trip.
Pro Tip: I loved traveling in May for our Eurotrip. The weather was perfect the entire time and the cost is significantly cheaper than traveling in the peak summer season.
What's Included in this Guide?
*Recommendations on where to stay and eat
*Key sights to see for your 1st time
*Guidance on how to get around
*Day trip to Versailles
*An Unforgettable Experience
My wife and I still talk about this trip and the unforgettable memories we made. I hope you have the same experience we did.

In this guide you will have suggestions on what to visit, where to eat and where to focus your time at!
Did you know that this city actually inspired Haussmann (responsible for the renovation of Paris)? So, instead of Bordeaux being known as "the little Paris", Paris should be known as "the big Bordeaux"!
I've been to Bordeaux two times: in the winter and in the summer.
In the winter, the gothic architecture of the church and cathedrals mixes up with the naked trees.
In the summer, the all vibe of the city changes, every terrace is full of live and all the fountains have water (in the winter, all the fountains don't have water, because of the risk of freezing).

I used to live in Paris, so when I return, I pick where I stay based on what I'm hoping to see and do. Paris is magically a massive city that remains largely walkable, and strolling the City of Light is not only an easy way to get around, but most Parisians' favorite past time.
Wander (flâner) amidst the Haussmannian architecture, picnic in the gardens, get lost in the Louvre, sip coffee or wine on a terrasse, fill up on crêpes and vintage books, watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle– this magical city is meant to be shared.
These are some of the best central hotel options in Paris that will allow you to explore the city by foot.
