Paris

Paris

Emma B
I could never understand why people raved about Paris so much, until I went back more than once and slowly started to appreciate its beauty. Having been there in all the seasons, I can finally say: Paris mon amour. Is it messy? Yes! Is it chaotic? Yes! But it's also beautiful, charming, romantic, and there's always something going on of course. If you don't like it the first time then don't give up, give it another go.

Good to know before you go

As with any major city, Paris is expensive. This means you can expect to pay minimum 20 euros for meals, breakfasts, brunch etc. Coffee cannot be found for less than 4 euros, and drinks are likely 10 euros or more, this is the big city life... I cannot even imagine the prices in the more touristic spots.

Yes it's a stereotype but for a reason: English is not widely spoken. Of course in touristic areas people speak English but often reluctantly. You will probably find it hard to get decent and easily accessible information from people in English. Just be prepared and either practice your French or download Google Translate, and arm yourself with patience.

Last but not least, Paris is perhaps not as safe as some of the other major European cities. Beware of pickpockets and petty theft, just keep your belongings close to you and pay attention to what's going on. Late at night and especially solo female travellers, consider Ubers rather than the metro or RER. Get a feeling for your neighbourhood as well, so you know how you will feel comfortable coming home.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Emma B
I'm Emma, an avid traveller and I've been fortunate enough to travel my whole life. I frequently travel as a solo female traveller. I have been all over Europe, and places further afield like Cuba, Japan and Thailand to name a few. I also lived for 8 years in Geneva, 6 years in Amsterdam, and have been going to London since I was a child. When I travel I love to discover the best of local destinations, whether that's cafes, bars or restaurants, but also outdoor spots, hikes, beaches, or other unique locations. My goal is to travel on an affordable budget that doesn't break the bank, but without being on a shoestring either. On Thatch I want to share my knowledge, years of experience and research with you, to enable you to make the most of your travels and help you fall in love with the places I've been.
