As one of the Dodecanese islands, Kos has a rich historical heritage. Over the centuries, it has been ruled by various civilizations, including the Ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Knights of St. John, and Ottomans. It has a well-preserved medieval fortress. Kos is home to several geothermal hot springs that are known for their therapeutic properties. And last but not least, Kos has a place that is renowned for its panoramic sunset views. This guide will be focused on the capital of the island that has the same name, Kos. The places will be presented to you that are worth visiting and have historical significance. Each place is equipped with valuable information. Also, the guide has a few recommendations for activities. The guide is based on personal experience.

Tórshavn is the largest city in the Faroe Islands. That doesn’t mean it’s big! It’s actually one of the smallest capitals in the world. Plus it’s utterly charming. The city on the southeast coast of Streymoy was founded by the Vikings and named after Thor (the Norse god). It’s still filled with turf-roofed houses, a sea-facing cathedral, and a fort to guard against pirates. Tórshavn isn’t stuck in the past, though. Coffee shops, design boutiques, record stores, a hip brewery, and minimal restaurants keep popping up around the harbor. The Faroese capital is about to become everyone’s favorite little Nordic city. Belizean cuisine is a delicious blend of Caribbean, Latin American, Mayan and African influences making it a truly wonderful experience for food lovers. The ingredients are fresh and local, featuring seafood, tropical fruits, rice and beans, and coconut milk curries. Staying on Ambergris Caye, we ate a lot of seafood. Fish, conch and lobster were freshly caught every day, so we indulged! This place will become more popular in the next while, which will mean the area becoming more busy and possibly an increase in the prices - so I do recommend to visit before this happens.

Churchill is located on Hudson Bay, at the mouth of the Churchill River and on the edge of the Arctic Circle. To say Churchill is remote is an understatement. There are no roads in, so your only way to arrive is either by air or a two day (one way) train ride. Churchill is known as the Polar Bear capital of the world, and is the location of the annual Beluga whale migration. Each of these has a very short season of viewing. Polar Bears can typically be found in October and November, but can vary slightly (I was lucky enough to encounter 3 in July). Beluga season is mid July to mid August. It is also one of the premier places in the world to see the Aurora Borealis, more commonly known as the Northern Lights. The best time for the AB is late Fall, Winter, and early Spring. I went at the end of July and stayed for 4 nights and 5 days for the Beluga whale migration and it was worth every single penny it cost. Make no mistake, this is not an inexpensive trip due to Churchill's location. Everything has to be either flown, or railed in, so their costs reflect that. There is only one commercial airline that flies there from Winnipeg. But again, it was totally worth it and I can only describe sharing the waters with the Belugas as a magical experience.
