Dunedin/Port Chalmers Day Trip
Ashley aka The Wanderlust Gourmet
Available for hire
Known for its Scottish and Maori heritage Dunedin is the 2nd largest city on the South Island of New Zealand. The dramatic landscape includes the adjoining Otago Peninsula, home to colonies of albatross, sea lions and rare yellow-eyed penguins. There is plenty to do here for a day including wildlife watching, castle touring, shopping, plenty to eat, hiking, cycling trails and museums.

Dunedin
@Thewanderlustgourmet
Known for both its Scottish and Maori heritage, it was settled by Scots from 1848 and even its name is a Gaelic version of Edinburgh. Dunedin has retained a Scottish heritage with its stone buildings, Highland games, and bagpipers, as well as whisky and haggis on offer around town.

Port Chalmers
@Thewanderlustgourmet
Port Chalmers is where you dock if you are on a cruise. Also a quaint town to browse but quite smaller. You could easily do it in an hour. I took the shuttle bus to Dunedin for more shops and restaurants and stayed for about 4-5 hours.

Tips
*Coming into Port the water can be unpredictable. Bring a wind breaking layer if you plan to be on the water or walking around the seaside town.
*If you plan to do the wildlife cruise and are a birder/photographer bring your long-range lenses and binoculars. Depending on the conditions of the water you might not be able to get close to the colonies.Β
*The town is very walkable. I would suggest bringing your own shopping bag or backpack to make it easier as New Zealand is very eco-conscious.Β
