This itinerary provides suggestions for Asheville and three small towns - Hendersonville, Flat Rock, and Saluda - located in the surrounding area. It also recommends a few outdoor activities for those interested! Asheville is much more famous than the small towns, but for a complete picture of Western North Carolina, I highly recommend that you venture further afield.

As avid travelers who have explored over 40 states in the US, my husband and I are always on the lookout for hidden gem places to visit. And we found just that in Winston-Salem, North Carolina - a town that's often overlooked but has so much to offer!
Winston-Salem is a small town with a big heart, located in the heart of North Carolina. It's a charming town with a rich history and culture, and it's known for its friendly locals, delicious food, and beautiful natural surroundings.
Winston-Salem is located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, approximately 100 miles north of Charlotte and 120 miles west of Raleigh. It is also just a few hours' drive from other major southeastern cities such as Atlanta, Richmond, and Washington D.C.

A weekend guide to Boone, Banner Elk, and Blowing Rock, North Carolina. My family loves traveling to the NC mountains for a quick weekend getaway. My husband grew up in the area and we always visit multiple times a year so we know our way around the area.
As we are typically traveling from Charlotte, we usually go to Boone on the way in, stay in Banner Elk, and come back through Blowing Rock to hit all our favorite places. We also love to bring our dog to the mountains with us so most places you see in this itinerary are dog friendly.

We love visiting & staying in North Carolina - in 2021 we found a place called Indigo Nature Retreat in Old Fort, North Carolina, and have been back many times since. I’m the fall of 2022, we are hosting a Retreat at Indigo & can’t wait to share some of our favorites with others. Situated off 1-40, Old Fort is a great place to rest for a bit - to have a coffee, chat with the locals, or catch a hike or quick bike ride.

Embark on a week-long adventure in South Carolina, a hidden gem beyond conventional tourist spots. Picture cobblestone streets, Civil War forts, and tantalizing BBQ.
The itinerary kicks off at Folly Beach, followed by a Charleston Harbor Cruise and delectable treats at C.R.U Cafe. Dive into history at Fort Sumter, explore Magnolia Gardens, and marvel at Boone Hall Plantation. A swampy hike at Congaree National Park adds a touch of the extraordinary. Refuel with BBQ delights at Poogan's Smokehouse, then indulge in Myrtle Beach's touristy charm.
South Carolina, where the charm lies in history, hospitality, and the flavors that make your taste buds dance – it's an adventure waiting to captivate your soul.
