🤵♂️ ABOUT ME 🤵♂️
I work as a Product Manager in a Tech Startup, but traveling is what truly excites me. With roots in India, and chapters of my life in the UK and USA, I've always been drawn to discovering new places. I have a penchant for exploring historical sites, wandering through cities, and diving deep into cultures, especially through local cuisines and conversations. I've been a Vegetarian all my life and seek out vegan and vegetarian spots whenever I travel.
In this guide, I've shared recommendations of places that I've personally been to. They go beyond the usual tourist spots, giving you a genuine taste of Dubai.
The best time to visit Dubai is between November and March when the weather is the most comfortable. During these months, you'll enjoy pleasant temperatures perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Outside of this period, the weather can be extremely hot and humid, making outdoor exploration challenging.
Dress Code
Dubai is a cosmopolitan city but it's also important to remember that it is an Islamic country where people pay importance to local customs and traditions. Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites and public places. Light, breathable clothing is recommended due to the warm climate, but always carry a light jacket or shawl as it can get very cold indoors due to the air conditioning.
Currency and Payments
The local currency is the UAE Dirham. Both credit and debit cards are widely accepted, but it's always a good idea to carry some cash for small purchases and in case you visit some smaller establishments. ATMs and Forex Counters are dotted throughout the city and are present in every mall.
Getting Around
Dubai has a good public transport system, particularly if you're trying to get to the tourist spots. Depending on the hotel you stay it, you may experience a slightly longer walk to the nearest metro station or choose to take a bus. The metro, trams and buses all use a single card called the "Nol Card". You can buy them at any metro station and there are two types of Nol Cards: Gold and Silver. The Gold card gives you access to the gold class cabins on the Metro and Trams for 2x the regular fare. The seats on these cabins are more comfortable and generally don't have as many people on them. If you want a comfortable metro/tram ride, I would absolutely recommend splurging on the Gold Nol Card.
One thing to remember is that the metro is a lot slower than getting a taxi or driving (except when there is heavy traffic). Uber operates in Dubai and they have a local company called Careem (which is my choice). Careem has a wide range of vehicles and has a larger fleet than Uber.
At the Airport, Malls and near tourist attractions, you can also find Taxi Ranks where you can hire one of the standard Red Roof Taxis. All taxis in Dubai have card machines and can take contactless payments or cash.
Also download the Nol Pay app to check the balance of your Nol Card by tapping it to your phone!
