Dubai Opera

"Dubai Opera is a state-of-the-art performing arts centre located within The Opera District in Downtown Dubai. With a seating capacity of 2,000, it is designed to host a wide variety of events including theatre, opera, ballet, concerts, conferences, and exhibitions. Developed by Emaar Properties, the venue was announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2012 and completed in 2016. It opened with a performance by renowned tenor Plácido Domingo. The venue's versatile design allows it to transform into three configurations: a theatre, a music hall, and a banquet or event hall with a flat floor mode, which can be used for weddings, gala dinners, and fashion shows. The building’s design, created by architect Janus Rostock of Atkins, draws inspiration from the traditional dhow sailing vessel, with the 'bow' housing the stage, orchestra, and seating, while the elongated 'hull' provides space for waiting areas and parking. The Dubai Opera also features a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views of the Burj Khalifa. In addition to hosting world-class performances, the venue has won multiple awards, including accolades for theatrical performances such as *Les Misérables* and *Othello*. Dubai Opera's first Emirati artist performance was by Hussain Al Jassmi in 2016. Over the years, the venue has hosted major events, including the inaugural BBC Proms Dubai in 2017 and *Les Misérables* as its longest-running show in late 2019. The venue's 2023-24 season attracted a record-breaking audience of 250,000, highlighting its importance as a cultural landmark in Dubai."
