"The Green Planet is an indoor zoo and garden located in the City Walk area of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Opened in 2016, it features a remarkable "bio-dome" designed to replicate a tropical rainforest ecosystem. The attraction is home to over 3,000 plants and animals, including birds, reptiles, and fish, all housed in open, naturalistic environments. While visitors are encouraged to explore and observe the creatures, interaction is not permitted. The bio-dome was created by Meraas and is the first of its kind in the region, offering an immersive experience of a tropical forest’s biodiversity.
The structure itself is cube-shaped and spans 60,000 square feet, designed with two distinct architectural elements. One side is cylindrical and made of glass, while the other features small circular apertures. At the heart of the bio-dome is a towering 82-foot artificial tree, accessible via a small bridge that holds up to four people at a time. The area also features an artificial waterfall, adding to the natural ambiance. Visitors enter on the fourth floor and can descend via a spiral slope to explore the various levels, each offering unique displays, including reptiles and informative exhibits. The Green Planet has earned LEED certification, demonstrating its adherence to Dubai's green building regulations.
Among the animals featured are sloths, flying foxes, Seba bats, anaconda snakes, and a bearcat, among others. Additionally, The Green Planet offers a unique experience where visitors can camp overnight in the bio-dome, providing a chance to fully immerse themselves in the rainforest environment."
