Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana
@venture4wd
We visited on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and there was a short line down the sidewalk outside. The host told us our booth number and we went in to find a bustling pizza shop run like a well-oiled machine. We had a tomato pie with sausage and mozz, and a white clam pizza with bacon. Both pizzas we delicious, Neapolitan style, and devoured in short order. We did find the outer crust to be a little bit of a chore to eat, but still yummy. Frank Pepe’s is a historical, Wooster St attraction, and while definitely good, we liked neighboring Sally’s a little bit better. You have ti try them both to decide which you prefer!

Ashley's Ice Cream
@venture4wd
We were at our nearby campground, and looked up ice cream on Google Maps. At first, we were going to go to Cold Stone, but then we saw Ashley’s in Madison had great reviews. When visiting new places, always try local, right? I had a cup of Oreo ice cream, and it was decent. The shop is spacious, and there is plenty of seating in the outside courtyard too. The town of Madison is charming, so if it’s a hot summer day, and you’re strolling through town, definitely stop here for a scoop or three.

Sally's Apizza
@venture4wd
We enjoyed dinner with friends here, off-camera. Sally's, like Frank Pepe's, is a historic pizzeria on Wooster St. in New Haven. Sally's is rustic, change-rejecting, running on good old-fashioned charm. The interior is a little dated, but it's one of those places that very intentional rejects change to assert that their business and their pizza is the same as it was a hundred years ago - and it works! They only take cash, and seating is limited, but the pizza is phenomenal. I liked the pizza better here than at Frank Pepe's, but the atmosphere and seating at Frank Pepe's was a little more accommodating. I recommend you try both historic pizzerias to decide which one you like the best!

The Place Restaurant
@venture4wd
This place, aptly named, "The Place" was recommended to us by Aaron at RoamRig, who is local. The atmosphere is rustic and it has a phenomenal, coastal Connecticut vibe. Dining is all outdoor, with makeshift stumps and plastic chairs as seating. There are string lights, a blazing fire pit, a canopy that can be pulled over in the event of rain. Corn and seafood are searing on metal grates over the fire. It is all 100% authentic and is just a fun, cultural place to get fresh seafood cooked over an open flame. It's probably a best-kept-secret. Strongly recommended!

Places to go…

Riverdale Farm Campsite
@venture4wd
A nice, friendly, well-kept, RV campground in Clinton, CT, only a short drive to idyllic Madison, and about ten minutes from the beach by car. It’s your typical RV camping experience with a lot of space in a lovely wooded landscape, and a lot of amenities, from a laundromat to a video game arcade. While this is more developed than the type of camping experience we prefer, it is a nice place to stay, with friendly people, and serves as a great, cost-effective hub from which you can explore the area. Our site was nestled between the pond and a beautiful woodland river.

Hammonasset Beach State Park
@venture4wd
We didn't spend too much time here, but it's a lovely, well cared for state park with day use areas, walking trails, and beach access with lifeguards and pavillions. There is a very reasonable daily entrance fee. We parked at the end of the penninsula, near Meigs Point and spent a little time hanging out on the beach. Beaches are relatively small and the sand is coarse. There are a lot of beachgoers here, even toward the end of the day on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Shannon and I hung out on the rocks at the end of the beach as the sun began to set in the sky. It was a lovely place to sit by the sea, or go for a swim, but don't expect too much privacy in peak season.

Winnebago Revel…

RoamRig
@venture4wd
RoamRig specializes in electrical upgrades for RVs; mostly for the Mercedes Sprinter-based Winnebago Revel. Aaron upgraded our 2021 Revel from a 250ah battery bank to 630ah, by adding batteries and improving performance by replacing the inverter, alternator, and adding a bluetooth battery monitor. First, the owner, Aaron, is brilliant. He knows his stuff and is heavily involved in the Revel community. His niche is very specific, but if you have a Winnebago Revel and need a power upgrade, he is absolutely your man.
