Best things to do in Osaka (50+ places!)

This kushikatsu is the BEST that I've had in all of Osaka! Not only is it one of the main local dishes of the city, but this little spot makes them fresh in front of you to deliver the BEST possible flavor! I highly recommend getting the: salmon, quail egg, crab, scallop adductor, Japanese beef and pork sausage. They're all SOOOO GOOD and cost less than 300 yen per piece. Just note that this spot has a cover charge of 700 per person. Average spend: 3000 yen per person

This 24 hour ramen restaurant is some of the best ramen I've had while living in Japan. This is hands down one of THE BEST ramen restaurants in my opinion. It's also great after a long night of drinking and partying to sober up before first train comes round at 5:00am Payment is made via a vending machine. It should also have an English or Language option somewhere displayed on the screen for ease of use to you.

This is an open-concept restaurant with the most delicious food I've ever tasted in Osaka. Honestly, I couldn't recover for DAYS after eating this cos it was so good. This wacky restaurant makes you eat with your HANDS! They serve up a HUGE seafood boil and give you some gloves and tongs to get through everything. It's a huge portion so I'd recommend eating the meat items first. (I couldn't finish everything, there's a lot of potatoes and veggies that fill you up fast!) They also have great drinks and an hourly performance with the waitresses! And make sure to go at lunch time when the prices are cheaper! Average spend: 4000 yen per person

I'm from the Caribbean, so wherever I can taste a piece of home, I go out of my way to get it! This curry restaurant has DELICIOUS curry and features mutton curry which is similar to curry goat back home. I also recommend pairing the mutton curry with cheese naan for a unique experience and blend of flavors! Average spend: 1800 yen

This is a great hub to enjoy one of Osaka's most famous signature street foods - the takoyaki. Enjoy this ball full of octopus meat and savory seafood flavors. It's very creamy and tasty, and I recommend trying it at least once! My favorite part of everything is seeing the fish skin dance on the heat of the takoyaki balls! This restaurant, owned by SUMO WRESTLERS, serves everything DEEP FRIED! They also have HUGE portions of food that are great to share with friends. My biggest recommendation for this place is to order in batches. What I mean is - one person should order their food and drink together, then the table should wait 5 minutes for another person to order. The reason this is, is because ALL of the food is fried and ALL of the food looks the same. I've had friends go in and not eat what they ordered because it got mixed up with someone else's so be sure to use this tip when you're out with friends! I highly recommend: 1. Pork belly 2. I think a lot of people don't actually order the kushi katsu and instead opt for more "regular" Japanese food that has a higher price tag than usual because it's not the restaurant's specialty. This is a very spacious izakaya that offers mega beer for 350 yen! Most dishes are also within this price range and is an excellent place to eat out. I highly recommend: 1. Deep fried mochi cheese 2. This is some of the best tempura I've had in all of Osaka! Tucked away in Namba Walk (the underground "mall" in Osaka Namba station) -- this small restaurant definitely gives you a HUGE portion with fresh ingredients at a really great price. I had the shrimp tempura and rice with eggplant, potato and pumpkin, which tasted absolutely DELICIOUS! I paid 700 yen max for that dish.

This is a modern KPOP Korean restaurant. The food is really great and the vibe is nice -- very aesthetic and instagrammable! They also boast a wide variety of wings and drinks on their menu! Average spend: 2000 yen

This restaurant is sat right near the riverside and has an amazing ambiance. You definitely want to put on something put together, even if it's casual. And be prepared to spend a bit and have exact change. Our party of 5 couldn't split the bill and paid a total of 17,500 yen. Food rating: 3/5 | Drink rating: 4/5 I highly recommend getting: 1. Octopus and Olive Bullschetta - it's very seasoned and doesn't taste like octopus. Italian flavors blend nicely to create a unique taste. 4 pieces for 980 yen. 2. Beef Lasagna - it's thin but has rich flavors. There was a generous portion of cheese and I enjoyed every bite. 1 portion for 1450 yen. 3. The Dotonbori Drink - beware, this drink catfishes as a yellowy, sunset orange drink! But when you get it, you realize it's a murky green drink that delights your senses with an apple and wine combination. It looks JUST like the river but tastes like heaven!! One glass for 800 yen.

This restaurant has a unique concept where you have to catch your own fish. It seems like a lot of fun but if you're not very good at fishing (like me!) maybe you should stick to traditional restaurants lol Expect to spend around 3000 yen here.

This adorable pig-themed cafe lets you get up close and personal with mini pigs. They're small and cute and act just like puppies. They may fight from time to time, and sometimes they get cute and cuddly with you with as many as 2 or 3 pigs sleeping on your blanket. Be sure to book this place in advance via their website. And remember to leave ON TIME as they will charge you double the price even if you're 1 minute late to check out (BTW THEY HAVE A LINE! This is my ABSOLUTE favorite place to go, especially when I'm giving guided tours around Osaka. This place has 11 floors of fun for everyone. From crane games, old school games, arcade games, interactive games, go-karting, roller blading and more! You definitely have to come through and experience all that this place has to offer! Go to the 3rd floor and request to do SPOTCHA which is all you can play for a limited time. Price: 3090 for FREE time 2890 for 3 hours 2390 for 1.5 hours (recommended on weekdays only!)

This bar is fun from head to toe. It has a retro and intimate vibe, being able to host up to 12 people before it feels cramped. Be sure to get there early to try and claim the corner room which has a vintage game console that you can play with friends. Their drinks are also themed. I highly recommend getting the Star Tropics drink. It's a cool blend of mango, malibu and orange juice. Absolutely LOVE IT every time I go there. And I got it for just 800 yen. This is a cool underground spot where you can drink, enjoy shisha, and OH YEAH, THROW AXES!! It's quite a thrilling experience and you can pay extra to throw things like the batman blade or ninja stars. Whichever you choose, have fun totally obliterating your target. Expect to spend around 4000 yen for activities and drinks.

This spot has been highly recommended to me by friends and has been on my bucket list for a while! Experience becoming a ninja in Japan and get special costumes and props before heading off to ninja training. After your training, sit down for a delicious meal. This activity has a 5 star rating out from 181 people on Google Maps and is a MUST DO if you can afford the 5000 yen price tag!

This is a dinosaur-themed restaurant and karaoke joint. DEFINITELY one of the most memorable experiences I've had. First, I rode the dinosaur outside for about 100 yen. Then, we went to the dinosaur karaoke area which featured your own personal smoke-breathing dinosaur in your private karaoke room! The special effects were really fun. They went all out for the theme and we had dinosaur claws (alligator hands). It was a little less meaty than I'd have liked but it was well seasoned and tasted really good. Price is about 2600 yen per person per hour.

Tucked away in Namba's alleyways is this rustic bar that allows you to play a variety of 200+ board games from around the world for just a flat rate of 500 yen per person. Their bar staff is really nice and both their food and drinks are delicious. Look out for their seasonal cocktails and events. This is a casual place that welcomes big groups of people. There is also a rooftop balcony that has extra seating. 30 people could hang out here comfortably.

This is a HUGE Aquarium in Osaka. There are so many floors to see and it's an absolutely great time with family or friends. A great indoor activity for when the weather isn't the best.

This is an immersive light exhibit in the middle of one of Osaka's Botanical Gardens. To my knowledge, this experience is only available in the night. Be sure to check their website in advance for more information and ticket purchases. If you have been to the TeamLabs in Tokyo, I'd recommend skipping this exhibit.

This is a really cutesy themed cafe where the servers use their superpowers to activate the deliciousness of the food. They also engage you in their antics and it's a very fun cafe to go to. It's a casual place but feel free to dress up and I highly recommend that you wear something PINK! They mostly have sweet items and some things run out fast so be prepared and look at the online menu beforehand. I would recommend getting: 1. Paku Paku Drawing Pancake - the server will draw anything that you want on the pancake in chocolate so be prepared to have something ready. Any cute anime or even pikachu is ok. They will do their best to make your favorite character come to life! 2 pancakes for 1000 yen. 2. NIIJIRO - rainbow colored cake that is really huge with so many colors. This one sells out fast so be sure to get it if you can. It's very sweet so definitely go for it if you have a huge sweet tooth. 1 slice for 1300 yen. 3. Ichigo Kawaii Parfait - this is a strawberry parfait that is layered to perfection with sweets, ice cream, and fresh strawberries! It was too big for me though, I couldn't finish everything lol. 1 serving for 1600 yen.

They have so many amazing shops in this HUGE mall that's connected to Osaka JR Station. Everything from LUSH, Wolfgang Puck, and all the authentic Japanese food and shops you can think of! I'd highly recommend it if you want to do something indoors or on a rainy day.

The infamous Don Quijote has a MEGA Store in Shinsekai (much better than the 2 in Namba IMO!) -- you can get literally anything from beauty, hair, electronics, snacks, alcohol, weird toys and more!

You can't go to Osaka and miss USJ. I once was a hater and didn't get it at all, but after my first visit, I ended up getting a yearly pass! I definitely recommend getting here early (around 7:30am) -- this way, you can get to Super Nintendo World first, enjoy the rides, then explore the Water World live show, go to Harry Potter land, then spread out to other attractions. Be sure to check the schedule to catch the live parades!

This undeground spot has grown tremendously in popularity. The whole vibe is very chill and the bartender can make you a customized drink. I'd recommend pre-gaming here or just coming with 1 or 2 friends as it can get packed quickly. Also great for a drink during the week when there are fewer crowds.

This old-timey bar is actually hidden behind a huge door. They went all in with the theme of the 1920's and it's reflected in the ambiance. The quirky name comes from being set in the prohibition era and having to have a name to hide the fact that they are indeed a bar. There are tons of unique cocktails that taste great, and please keep in mind there is also a seating charge of 500 yen per person. I highly recommend: 1. Crystal Gangsta - a fruity combination that goes down smoothly and still gets you tipsy. 1600 yen. 2. The Popcorn Drink - the menu is a secret lol but I remember having this drink that was a fun concept!

This is a secret bar hidden behind a red London-styled telephone booth. I really like this bar for the intimacy with the bartender. There is no menu -- you simply tell the bartender what flavours you like and they will make something nice for you. I think I ended up spending most of my money on the appetizers cos they were so dang good! Definitely a MUST SEE when you visit Osaka!

This was my first home in Japan, and it's where I lived for 2 years! I definitely recommend checking out the various food stalls and get corndogs on a stick, spiral potatoes and oreo churros to name a few! They also have many beauty products at a cheap price and a place where you can take pictures in Korean hanboks! I always try to take my friends here whenever they visit Osaka because it's really nice.

Their coffee shops is one of my favorites and only costs around 500 yen for a cute bear latte!

The historic purpose of Osaka Castle was to serve as a symbol of power, a military stronghold, and the residence of the ruling leaders in Japan during the Edo period. The inside is more of a history museum than a castle and is filled with traditional writings, statues and pieces. The admission fee is 600 yen. PRO TIP: If you come off at the Tanimachi Yon Chome (Tanimachi-4-Chome) train stop, there is a shuttle that can take you straight to the castle for 300 yen. I highly recommend this if you don't like walking. If you're not into history, this spot is definitely not for you. However, if you still want to pursue it because of the content then I'd recommend getting a picture of the castle in the background from Osaka Castle PARK. Then, check the park map to see where different gardens are. Depending on the dates that you are there, you can see different flowers blooming. Be sure to Google the flowers in bloom in Osaka before visiting, so you know exactly which gardens to go to! I personally love the Plum Blossoms that bloom in April/May!
