Osaka’s nickname, “Tenka no Daidokoro” (the nation’s kitchen), originally referred to its historical status as Japan’s rice-trade hub. Although no longer the hub for rice trade, Osaka is now known for being the food capital of Japan. Okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and kushikatsu are well-known Osaka dishes, but there are many more delicious foods to try while there. Known for efficient, high-speed bullet trains, Japan rarely is touted as a road trip destination. . .especially to westerners. But I beg to differ. While most travelers will simply wiz point to overcrowded  point via Shinkansen, I've driven practically empty back roads to engaging, off-the-beaten-path towns that utterly charmed me.

Cup Noodles Museum Osaka Ikeda

After the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum, the Instant Ramen Museum is my second favorite. I love how interactive the museum exhibits are, and the story behind instant noodles is quite interesting. Learn about the history and make your own CUPNOODLES for less than $4 USD. It’s best to go earlier in the day when the line isn’t as long. Of course, weekdays are preferable over weekends.

There's one near Tokyo too, but I've been to THIS one so I'm not sure how they differ. Overall cute fun little museum. The highlight was making your own custom cup noodle and taking it home. They also had noodle making classes but they were all booked up. 😭

Have a super fun few hours creating your own cutom blend of this Japanese-invented, college-student staple. See a replica of Momofuku Ando's workshop and learn about the steps this freeze-dried noodle took to world-wide domination.   

Personalize your own Cup Noodle Soup for just 600 yen! You can draw your packaging and pick your own ingredients! Perfect experience and you get the cup noodles as a souvenir. 

A short train ride over to the Cup Noodle Museum is 100% worth it! We had so much fun and learned some history while there. 

2 PM - This place is quite out of the way, but it's super cool! You can make your own cup noodles!
