After going to college in the area, and spending the majority of my twenties in DC, I amassed a collection of favorites bars, restaurants, activities, and coffee shops. Here you'll find my tried and true favorites, plus some recommendations from my current local friends there.

🌎 Ever since finishing university 3 years ago, I have been full time travelling and volunteering for conservation projects. I absolutely love my lifestyle however can't lie tight budget is one of the downsides. Instead of giving up my travel dreams I just decided to become resourceful and find the perfect itineraries that still fit my tight budget and let me explore the world. Before every trip, I spend weeks planning and researching and it's one of my favourite parts of the adventure. However, I know it can be overwhelming and tedious at times so I decided to share my research and my itinerary with you. All places mentioned here are places where I have been/stayed/eaten myself and can give you an honest review. 🇺🇲 In fall of 2022 I backpacked through East coast of the USA by myself without a car. I was a bit sceptical how it would go since USA is not a very popular backpacker destination. But I was happily surprised how easy it was and kept going from New York down to Virginia, meeting new people on the way and exploring incredible places. 🗽In this guide, you'll find an itinerary through the USA meant to take you through 3 states throughout 14 days following my footsteps. You'll also find description of 2 day trip into 2 more states. I'll share with you my recommendations of where to stay and what to do as well as a detailed outline of the full cost which adds up to 490$ without day trips (accommodation and transport). DC has a way of surprising you. Once you get beyond the hustle and bustle, you’ll find a city where life just happens. It’s in the small moments—neighbors chatting at local shops, kids playing in the parks, and friends gathering over coffee. You can really feel the community spirit, making it easy to settle in and feel at home. Then there’s Alexandria, just a stone’s throw away. It’s got a relaxed, charming vibe with its cobblestone streets and waterfront paths. It’s the kind of place where you can take a leisurely walk, grab a bite to eat, or just hang out by the water. It feels cozy and inviting, like a little escape from the city buzz. Together, DC and Alexandria create a nice balance. DC is full of energy and excitement, while Alexandria offers a slower pace when you need a breather. Both places have their unique charm, making them feel like home to anyone who spends time there 🇺🇸

Soooo I went on a solo trip to the state’s capital- Washington, D.C. and here is how it went✨

If you are looking for a guide to experience all the historical monuments and government buildings, this guide is not for you. I think there is already plenty of resources out there for the history buffs. Instead this guide is some of my personal favorite neighborhoods of the city and personal recommendations I would give for shopping, eating and just a little bit of history. You will may be surprised how much more there is to explore outside of the most famous landmarks!

As avid travelers who have explored over 40 states in the US, my husband and I are always on the lookout for hidden gem places to visit. And we found just that in Winston-Salem, North Carolina - a town that's often overlooked but has so much to offer! Winston-Salem is a small town with a big heart, located in the heart of North Carolina. It's a charming town with a rich history and culture, and it's known for its friendly locals, delicious food, and beautiful natural surroundings. Winston-Salem is located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, approximately 100 miles north of Charlotte and 120 miles west of Raleigh. It is also just a few hours' drive from other major southeastern cities such as Atlanta, Richmond, and Washington D.C.

2022 was the year of a lot of travel redemption for most of us, but it was also the year I had to turn down trips to Portugal, Spain, and Paris, as well as have a trip to New Orleans cancelled due to Covid. But thankfully that didn’t stop me from a spring road trip to Texas, a few summer days in DC, two trips to Disney World, and lots of Tennessee day trips in between.
