I've lived in Puerto Rico for over a year now and even though it's a small island there is a lot to see, do, and eat! When moving, my husband and I wanted to be in action so we chose the metro area of San Juan as our home base.
We are extremely close to Viejo San Juan and even though it can be a bit touristy, I always recommend it for first timers to the island!
In this free guide, you will get a sample of what my paid guides have to offer.
I've handpicked cafes, brunch, dessert, spots for sightseeing, a few bars (future guide for that one), local tips, and more!
Viejo San Juan can definitely be seen in a full day, as long as you have comfortable shoes! But, you can also split this guide up for multiple visits.

Picture this: turquoise water lapping at silky sand, salsa music spilling out of colorful cafes, and rainforests teeming with life. That's Puerto Rico, also known as "Island of Enchantment" (and for good reason!). But here's the cool thing: it's not all just beaches (although they are seriously amazing).
This guide will be your partner in crime, showing you the best eats, hidden gems, and unforgettable experiences this vibrant island has to offer.
Here's why you'll love Puerto Rico: it's got everything from salsa-dancing nights in Old San Juan to rainforest hikes and epic watersports. But the real magic lies with the Boricuas, the Puerto Rican people. They're known for their warmth, their love of life, and their ability to throw one heck of a party.

Puerto Rico is La Isla del Encanto (The Island of Enchantment) but due to colonization and multiple natural disasters the lives of Puerto Ricans have suffered multiple challenges. It was important for me when creating this itinerary to highlight ways for visitors to the island to support those who were born and raised and love their island.

We love cruises, but the shore excursions through the cruise line can be so expensive and often make you feel like cattle being herded into trailers. We prefer a slightly more personalized option, and many of the same trips can be organized on your own. If you have a smaller party finding your cruise roll call by searching for Facebook groups with your sailing dates is a great way to organize a small tour to bring costs per person down.
We love cruising for family vacations. It’s a great way for the whole family to have fun and feel relaxed (hey Kids Club!). It’s also great for larger groups or multi-generational trips. Everyone can do their own thing and connect where they want. We like to do dinner together and port excursions mostly together, and then once back onboard we kind of do our own things.
If you have a grandparent or co-traveler going with you connected staterooms is a great way to go. This gives you a little more space and the ability to coordinate and hang out within the same space, especially after kids go to bed. Individual doors can still be closed as needed, but you’ll need your key to reopen or go through a balcony.
