I absolutely love my lifestyle however can't lie tight budget is one of the downsides. Instead of giving up my travel dreams I just decided to become resourceful and find the perfect itineraries that still fit my tight budget and let me explore the world. Before every trip, I spend weeks planning and researching and it's one of my favourite parts of the adventure. However, I know it can be overwhelming and tedious at times so I decided to share my research and my itinerary with you. All places mentioned here are places where I have been/stayed/eaten myself and can give you an honest review. In this guide, you'll find an itinerary through the Balkans meant to take you through 6 countries throughout 26 days following my footsteps. I'll share with you my recommendations of where to stay and what to do as well as a detailed outline of the full cost (accommodation and transport). You'll also find links to the accommodations I stayed in and all the bus/train companies I used. You'll also find a spreadsheet so you can adjust the itinerary to your own needs. This is a backpacking guide for hiking a variant of the Peaks of the Balkans (POB) trail in 7-13 days through Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. This route includes all the highlights of the POB trail and adds some exclusive side tours with some of the most majestic landscapes not part of the official POB loop. This guide provides a flexible itinerary dividing the loop up into 3 sections, with each section providing options for extra side trips (highest mountain of Kosovo and highest of the Albanian Alps, Grebaje valley). The tour can be done by either camping along the way, or sleeping in guesthouses/ hotels. This guide includes the route as seen in my Youtube film and is suitable for all levels of experience. This 5-day road trip through Kosovo and North Macedonia took us from Pristina’s lively streets to Skopje’s historic charm and the natural wonder of Matka Canyon. Along the way, we met locals who love seeing Indian travelers, explored hidden monasteries, and immersed ourselves in nature. From the cozy hostels and local flavors to spontaneous stops like the Gracanica Monastery and Kamenjane Waterfalls, this trip was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. This was my second time visiting Croatia but my first time visiting Dubrovnik. I loved it so much and can't wait to go back hopefully very soon! Croatia will always have a special place in my heart because it's where we got engaged on July 22nd, 2022! Croatia is like Italy's second cousin-- it shares the same maritime border, the Adriatic Sea, has a heavy influence of truffles in its cuisine, and celebrates dolce far niente (the sweetness of doing nothing). For our quick 72-hour trip, we basked in the sun, read good books, got a couples massage, and swam in the sea as many times as we could! Croatia was once part of the Roman Republic and, much later in history, part of Yugoslavia. It has a brutal history of war specifically its most recent civil war resulting in its independence from Yugoslavia which took place from 1991 to 1995. This rich but tragic history has shaped Croatians and their culture into what it is today. Many locations across Dubrovnik and Split were used for filming the hit TV show, Game of Thrones. There are lots of tours offered to see the various locations but you certainly don't have to be a Game of Thrones fanatic to visit Dubrovnik, Croatia. We didn't meet one Croatian who had watched the show themselves just like ourselves. Croatia has over 1000 islands with crystal clear water and pebbly beaches for a fraction of the price compared to its neighbors. It's what initially drew me to visit this country along the Balkan peninsula. Here's everything we did throughout our 3-day trip in Dubrovnik plus a few additional recommendations.

Ravenna is a city on the East coast of Italy, a couple of hours south of Venice: it's known as the Capital of Mosaics, a form of art that developed while the city was capital of the Roman Empire and later on during the Byzantine era. The 8 UNESCO heritage sites should be enough to convince you to go visit, but in case they aren't here's 5 reasons why you should: 1. It's CHEAPER than bigger cities like Venice, Florence or Rome, but that doesn't mean it's not as beautiful 2. Staying in a smaller city doesn't mean you won't be able to visit anything else: in fact Ravenna is very WELL CONNECTED by the railway system to multiple major destinations 3. Are you a SEA or MOUNTAIN person? Don't worry, Ravenna has both: 20 minutes east are its beaches, famous for their beach volleyball tournaments, while in the opposite direction you will find the Apennines! 4. Like anywhere else in Italy FOOD isn't the issue: lasagna, cappelletti, "bolognese" sauce, etc. are originally of Emilia Romagna, the region where Ravenna is found 5. Is Italy not enough for you? Apart from being close to Bologna's AIRPORT, Ravenna has also FERRIES that will take you to the Balkans region in no time!

Montenegro is probably the MOST underrated European country. Located in the Balkans by the Adriatic sea, most people would choose Croatia or Greece over Montenegro. Why pick Montenegro instead? Because it's way less touristic and cheaper than its neighbors. And despite its small size, it has it all! From picturesque coastlines with centuries old towns to Alpine mountains and waterlily filled lakes, Montenegro doesn't disappoint. And because of its small size, it's possible to see its highlights in 7 days, from North to South. This guide is best suited for road trip enthusiasts and avid travelers who want to see as much as possible in a limited time and on a budget. There is little time for relaxation, expect to be exploring and driving every day (on average 3 hours per day), but it will be absolutely worth it! For convenience reasons, this itinerary starts and ends in Dubrovnik, Croatia, right at the border with Montenegro.
