Certaldo is a personal favorite of mine, not just because it is my hometown. I live in the hills outside town. This was the home to Boccaccio, the author of the Decameron. It is one of the less touristy hilltowns, so you get a real feel of what it was like. There is the larger lower city which was buildt in the 1800's and then the original village from Medieval times, made entirely of red bricks, it is truly beautiful.

It is strategically located near the Garda Lake (20 minutes away by train), below the Prealpi e on the banks of the Adige. Marrakesh is not thought of as a "history" city as much as it is a gold mine of aesthetically pleasing sites. However, history can be found at every corner around the old city - called the Medina. If you're looking for a great guide to the historic sites of Marrakesh's old city! A few notes about this guide - the sites at the top start at the southern end of the Medina and work their way north. Additionally, there is a good mix of preserved sites and restored site - the Moroccan government and other private institutions have restored some sites to their full glory. While it may seem less "historically accurate", these preserved sites are just as worthwhile to visit. NOTE: I cannot verify sites will not be closed due to the earthquake. I have added some links to donate to charities assisting relief efforts in Morocco below.

A map of the best gelato shops in Florence When it comes to ice cream we Italians get really serious. In Florence even more: perhaps because gelato was invented here at the end of the 1500s by an architect - perhaps a bit of an archistar as we call them today: Bernardo Buontalenti, who left us his extremely creamy flavour “the Buontalenti”. Not all the gelato shops in Florence - and there are so many, I assure you - sell good gelato. How do you recognize good gelato then? First of all, trust your eyes: colors that are too bright or too “bold” are unnatural, so I would avoid them immediately. As well as “mountains” of gelato on display. Exaggerated. Less is more if you know what I mean. Finally: a good gelato shop must produce on site and must therefore have the laboratory on site. Well,… now you already know everything about gelato but walking all over florence in search of the best gelaterias might take a bit too much... it took me forever - it's hard work but someone has to do it!!! So : here you go, these are, in my opinion the best and most authentic. Enjoy!!!

Vietnamese food is definitely a big part of the culture. From coffee to salad to noodles, I am sure you will enjoy the fresh and simple food as much as I do. For example, food in the North, Hanoi is comparably lighter and less intense than the food in the South. This charming English town, just outside of the Cotswolds, was once home to Jane Austen and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Less than a 90 minute train ride from London, this is a great escape from hustle and bustle of city life.

California Gold Country holds an incredible amount of history, beautiful outdoor activities, alpine lakes, hiking, food, wine, & more. In my opinion, this section of Highway 49 is the best road trip in the West. The entire 49 is amazing, but in case you're short on time, this guide focuses on my favorite section of it. This guide holds everything you need for a 3-5 day trip in this region. It includes information on hikes, swimming spots, small towns, wine, food, history, accommodation, camping, and more. That amount of time will leave you space to have at least one full outdoors day, one full wine & food day, and some other activities in between. It's a great trip for someone like me who likes getting dirty & spending time outside and in the backcountry, but also likes really good food and some of the best wine California has to offer. There's something for everyone on this trip. You can walk on a dirt trail for an hour and a half, see wildflowers, swim, go wine tasting, learn about history, and more. This trip can be done any time of year. If you visit in the winter, you may want to sub out some skiing for swimming & some of the hikes might be inaccessible without snowshoes or XC skis. If you go in the middle of summer, it will be hot at lower elevations, but still amazing. Spring will give you some incredible wildflowers. ‌This area is less frequented & should be appreciated. It's a great trip if you're looking to escape the crowds. This trip can easily be done as an add-on to Lake Tahoe or Sacramento. Use this guide as a set itinerary, or draw from it to create your own trip!
