Where to Dine in Campi Flegrei, Italy (Mini Guide)

In English and Italian Campi Flegrei aka the Phlegrean Fields has been my home for the last 30 years. How much do you know about this coastal area near Naples which houses the largest volcanic area in Europe? 🌋 Besides offering some amazing archaeological sites, coastal lakes, beaches, 🏖️thermal springs, and nature reserves, it also has some great spots to eat. From traditional cuisine to Michelin starred fine dining- the area is packed. From seafood 🐟 to pasta 🍝- here is my list of some not to miss spots. I've divided them up into three sections - Michelin starred ⭐ - Overlooking the water 🏖️🌊 - Inland 🌄 This guide is a 'mini guide' focusing only on restaurants. One of the areas 2 Michelin starred restaurants. Seated high above Capo Miseno features not only an amazing menu but also a sectacular view. The restaurant is reachable only by their own 4 wheel drive jeep that will meet you at the parking lot and take you to one of Italy's most romantic restaurants. Open from early spring to mid October. Here's a bit of a post that I wrote about one of the restaurant's fantastic first course dishes: Spaghetti Summer - Chef Angelo Carannante, Caracol, Bacoli (Na) I reserved a table for lunch online nearly two weeks in advance. So the countdown began as soon as I received my confirmation minutes later. There were many reasons that I was excited about returning to Caracol for lunch; an extremely talented chef, a location fantasticaaa, a newly awarded Michelin star, one of Campania's top Maitre Sommeliers...the list could go on forever. So, as I sat down at my table two weeks later, my eyes quickly skimmed the menu for something particular. Sure, I definitely was going to get the chef's tasting menu, but I wanted to make sure that it included...there it was! Chef Angelo Carannante's pasta dish. His spaghetti iodato. This pasta dish was created by Carannante who was looking to create a pasta moderna - a modern pasta dish. Something without toppings such as shellfish or other types of seafood. Something, sleek, black, bare, with just a touch seaweed salad and lemon on top. So Carannante got his brigade together and began trying out ideas - . Oyster sauce...mussel sauce...sea urchin pulp, anenome, then finally cuttlefish ink. Seduto in alto sopra Capo Miseno offre non solo un menu straordinario, ma anche una vista spettacolare. Il ristorante è raggiungibile solo con la propria jeep a 4 ruote motrici che vi aspetterà al parcheggio e vi condurrà in uno dei ristoranti più romantici d'Italia. Aperto da inizio primavera a metà ottobre. Ecco un po' di post che ho scritto su uno dei fantastici primi piatti del ristorante: Spaghetti Estate - Chef Angelo Carannante, Caracol, Bacoli (Na) Ho prenotato un tavolo per il pranzo online con quasi due settimane di anticipo. Quindi il conto alla rovescia è iniziato non appena ho ricevuto la mia conferma pochi minuti dopo. C'erano molte ragioni per cui ero entusiasta di tornare a Caracol per pranzo; uno chef di grande talento, una location fantasticaaa, una stella Michelin appena premiata, uno dei migliori Maitre Sommelier della Campania... la lista potrebbe continuare all'infinito. Così, mentre mi sedevo al mio tavolo due settimane dopo, i miei occhi scorsero rapidamente il menu alla ricerca di qualcosa di particolare. Certo, avrei sicuramente preso il menu degustazione dello chef, ma volevo assicurarmi che includesse... eccolo! Il piatto di pasta dello chef Angelo Carannante. I suoi spaghetti iodati. Questo piatto di pasta è stato creato da Carannante che stava cercando di creare una pasta moderna - un piatto di pasta moderno. Qualcosa senza condimenti come crostacei o altri tipi di frutti di mare. Qualcosa di lucido, nero, spoglio, con solo un tocco di insalata di alghe e limone in cima. Così Carannante ha riunito la sua brigata e ha iniziato a provare idee -. Salsa di ostriche...salsa di cozze...polpa di ricci di mare, anenome, poi finalmente nero di seppia.

SUD Ristorante opened in 2009 by Pino Esposito and chef Marianna Vitale. The restaurant is located in a residential area in Quarto not far outside of Naples. For some it was a gamble to open up a small gourmet restaurant in the suburbs- but SUD played and won. In 2012 they received a Michelin star. Dishes such as cod cheesecake and spaghetti with sea anemones are classics. SUD Ristorante aperto nel 2009 da Pino Esposito e dalla chef Marianna Vitale. Il ristorante si trova in una zona residenziale di Quarto non lontano da Napoli. Per alcuni è stata una scommessa aprire un piccolo ristorante gourmet in periferia, ma SUD ha giocato e vinto. Nel 2012 hanno ricevuto una stella Michelin. Piatti come la cheesecake di merluzzo e gli spaghetti con anemoni di mare sono dei classici.
