Seeing all of the lighthouses we could find was the focus of this trip, but we found so much more along the way. Flying into Boston, Massachusetts we made our way along the coast all the way to Portland, Maine. We stayed five nights and six days exploring all of the nooks and crannies we encountered. Lighthouses were definitely found and loved, but excitedly so was a fort built in the 1600's, a local bar with ties to a tragedy as well as part of a movie, a fabulously, politically incorrect tour, and even stayed in a witch's house. You will find all of these in this guide and so much more. Lighthouses, restaurants, tours, and oh my gosh, the best donuts you will find anywhere. This was an incredibly fun trip. If you're looking for a city escape to live your European Summer dream, you've come to the right place! This is my 100% honest opinion of my 10 favorite European cities to visit in Summer. I see lots and lots of guides out there suggesting Paris (hello, has someone heard of the Olympic Games taking place?), Madrid (if you love 45° weather I guess) or Lisbon (great choice if you want to be 1 or 100 000 tourists). While these are all great destinations year-round, I don't think Summer is the right season to visit them. Personally, I'd go there in Spring or Autumn, not during the high season. We recently spent almost three weeks in Panama and this country SHOCKED us. The amount of diversity this place has to offer is insane: waterfalls, beach towns, surfing, snorkelling, mountain towns, volcanoes, cloud forests, islands everywhere, and so much more. The weather, endless activities, amazing food, and ease of travelling around this place makes it a great vacation spot! This itinerary covers everywhere we went with the addition of a few days and uses a car - which we found to be the easiest way to get around. However, almost all the locations listed in the below are able to get around to with the use of shuttles and public transportation. & yes it's for three weeks, but this itinerary is easily adjustable to either cut the locations that sound the least interesting to you, or add / cut more time in certain locations!
