Where to EAT
For Breakfast
In Bologna, indulging in a breakfast of buttery, creamy croissants accompanied by a finely crafted cappuccino is a cherished ritual, a simple pleasure that sets the tone for the day. The following selections are my personal favorites for kickstarting the morning with an exceptional twist of taste, where the quality of the coffee and the freshness of the pastries promise a truly delightful beginning to any day. These spots are not just places to eat; they're where locals and visitors alike come to savor the authentic flavors of Bologna, turning an ordinary morning into an extraordinary experience.
Here are some of my favourite spots...
For Coffee:
Allegra
@jacquitoumbas
Opened in the sweltering summer of 2023, Allegra is Lorenzo Costa's latest venture, joining the ranks of his other successful establishments like Oltre and Ahimè. Located in the same space, Allegra shares its home with Calmo, an ambitious restaurant, and Scuro, an innovative cocktail bar, creating a trifecta of culinary delight. Among its offerings, Allegra shines brightly with its breakfast menu, particularly famous for serving one of Bologna's most exquisite croissants. These pastries, rich and buttery, filled with a heavenly crema pasticcera, make waking up in Bologna something to look forward to.
But Allegra's dedication to quality doesn't stop at pastries. The coffee and cappuccino here are a testament to the craft of specialty coffee, with each sip reflecting a deep reverence for the bean. Adding to the allure are the unique, Japanese-inspired cups, handcrafted locally in Bologna, which not only enhance the drinking experience but also serve as a testament to the café's commitment to detail and local craftsmanship.
A pro tip for visitors: make sure to arrive early in the morning. The brioche, a crowd favorite, sells out quickly, and securing one is a victory worth the effort. Allegra isn't just a coffee spot; it's a culinary landmark in Bologna, representing a melding of tradition and innovation, where every visit leaves a lasting impression.

Caffè Terzi Bologna
@jacquitoumbas
Café Terzi stands as a testament to the art of coffee making, tucked away in a cozy corner with an impressive selection of brews. The café's founder, Manuel Terzi, is renowned for his meticulous attention to the coffee-making process, from bean selection to the final espresso, ensuring that each cup carries a unique signature. Visitors are invited to find a nook at the counter and explore a world of flavors among six blends and single-origin coffees, ranging from the refined Turkish Arabica to the robust intensity of Indian Robusta.
For those looking to elevate their coffee experience, the Caffè pistachio comes highly recommended. It's more than just a beverage; it's a delightful way to start your day, blending the rich taste of coffee with the nutty sweetness of pistachio. This special concoction exemplifies the innovation and quality that Café Terzi is celebrated for, making every visit a memorable one.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jacqui Toumbas
As a Australian-born with roots deeply embedded in the rich soil of Cypriot heritage, I bring to the table a zest for life that's as diverse as my background. With a professional footing in nutrition and a passion for cooking, I've always found joy in the art of curating wholesome meals, believing that food is more than sustenance; it's a universal language of love and a bridge between cultures. This belief was the cornerstone of my journey as the owner of Miss Bliss, a café that wasn't just a place to dine but a haven where people came together over the love of good food.
Transitioning from café owner to a content creator, my adventures have taken me from the local streets of West End Brisbane to the breathtaking landscapes of Italy, with a special fondness for Puglia. Here, I discovered a slow, savoured life, where every meal tells a story, and every landscape holds a poem. It's this essence of travel - the slow unveiling of a place's soul through its food, people, and culture - that I wish to share with the world.
My approach to food and travel goes beyond the mere act of eating or visiting places. It's about understanding the narrative behind every dish, the history woven into the cobblestones of ancient towns, and the silent tales of the rolling countryside. Through my content, I aim to inspire others to not just see the world but to feel it, taste it, and understand it.
My journey is a testament to the belief that travel should be an immersive experience, where slow travel and authentic connections pave the way for memories that last a lifetime. From exploring different cultures and cuisines to sharing everything I love about my own culture and food, my goal is to encourage people to fall in love with the world's diversity.
Join me as I continue to explore, create, and share the beauty of slow travel, the richness of authentic cuisines, and the joy of making the world a smaller, more connected place, one story at a time.
