Rome, the "Eternal City", is a sprawling metropolis that's also a captivating open-air museum. Its history stretches back nearly 3,000 years, and its layers of empires, artistic achievements, and religious significance are everywhere you look.
Here's a quick description to whet your appetite for a visit:
- Geography:
Rome sits on the Tiber River in central Italy. It's built on seven hills, which is how it earned the nickname "The City of Seven Hills".
- History:
Once the capital of a mighty republic and empire, Rome's influence on Western civilization is undeniable. Its legacy is visible in its architecture, laws, and even languages spoken around the world today.
- Landmark:
The city is packed with iconic landmarks, from the awe-inspiring Colosseum, the ancient Roman forum, to the Vatican City, home to St. Peter's Square and the Sistine Chapel.
- Culture:
Roman culture is a vibrant blend of history, art, food, and religion. Be sure to explore the Trastevere neighborhood for a taste of authentic Roman life.
- Food:
When it comes to food, Rome is all about simple, fresh ingredients. Pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice) is a delicious and affordable Roman street food. Don't miss out on pasta dishes like cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper) or all'amatriciana (tomato sauce with guanciale, a cured pork cheek).
Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply a foodie, Rome has something to offer everyone. So pack your walking shoes and get ready to be dazzled by the Eternal City!

The Hit List | Where To Find the Best of Rome's Traditional Pasta Dishes
⭐️ If you want to know where to go for some of the best pasta dishes in Rome without being overwhelmed by the choices, then grab this guide!
In Rome, every corner boasts a trattoria, ostaria, or ristorante flaunting its cacio e pepe or carbonara and many of these eateries (especially in the centro storico) aim to capitalize on tourists' unfamiliar tastes, lack of experience in the city, and a quest for convenience.
Unfortunately, this often results in higher prices, the use of subpar, less fresh ingredients, and shortcuts in cooking methods.
It's overwhelming to sift through all the options, and tourist traps can make it difficult to find the places that are serving up the most authentic dishes.
When you just want to confidently walk into a restaurant knowing that the meal will be spectacular without putting in hours of research, look no further than this guide.
I've compiled a hit list of restaurants serving up the best traditional Roman pasta dishes, and you won't be disappointed.
Having eaten A LOT of pasta in Rome, I can confidently say that these are the best. You can't go wrong at any of these places so book away!
Featuring:
🍝Carefully researched recommendations based on quality, atmosphere, and overall experience.
🍝Where to find them, plus direct links to their address on Google Maps
🍝Description and details on each of the four traditional Roman pasta dishes to help turn you into a pasta pro (if you aren't already).
🍝Personal recommendations on which pasta to order at each restaurant, based on experience. (It is also 100% ok to order all four at each place, which I have done plenty of times)
🍝Links to the websites with more details
🍝Hours of operation so you can plan accordingly
⭐️This guide is also great because you can plan your meals around what you would like to eat and when. You might want cacio e pepe one night but need to make sure you also plan for a plate of amatriciana another night.
⭐️Side note: If you need help making reservations at a restaurant that does not offer online booking (many do not), schedule a private consultation call with me for the best way to do so via phone!*

Hotel recommendations.
I suggest two neighborhoods if this is your first trip to this fabulous, historic, huge, busy city. I tried to include lodging in all price ranges.
Trastevere:
This is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Rome. It was a working class neighborhood so most buildings and quaint cobblestone streets were left unchanged for centuries. Now, it’s full of small family owned rentals and tons of restaurants. There’s a photo op on every corner. You will see graffiti on a lot of the buildings and most restaurants aren’t open until after 7:30pm, but it does become lively in the later evening. As a solo traveler, I’ve always felt safe here.
Vatican area:
The area right East and South of the Vatican is busy, but a nice place for tourists to stay. During the day there’s lots of restaurants and shopping. The evening has fewer dining options, but still an overall safe feeling. Plus, it’s always easy to find your way back to the Vatican!
Where NOT to stay: Termini. This is the main train station of Rome the hotels and hostels in this area can be really hit or miss. I wouldn't stay here on your first visit.
