Over the past few years, Iceland has been getting more and more popular by tourists. Nicknamed the Land of Fire and Ice because of its many volcanoes and glaciers, there are endless opportunities of gorgeous natural wonders to explore. Over 60% of the people that live in Iceland, live in the capital city of Reykjavik. If you are not renting a car to avoid the intimidation of the slippery roads during winter, all of the activities below can be done right in Reykjavik or by a tour with transfer. I very quickly discovered that Iceland is as expensive as they say but I also discovered it can be explored on a low budget. If you choose the most basic option (camping and hitchhiking) you can expect 30€ a day. If you prefer hostels and public transport or bus tours you can expect anything from 40 to 150€ a day. Snorkeling is one of my favorite memories from our 10 day father-daughter trip to Iceland in June 2022. I’ve used our experience to develop a family friendly itinerary with activities that entertain from energetic teenager to an adult in their 50s. This itinerary includes a full 10 day plan with a packing list and links to companies that we tested and used including: rib boats, the blue lagoon, geysers, puffins, whale watching, snowmobiling on glaciers, snorkeling Sifra, hotels, and restaurants. SKIP the guides about the Golden Circle unless you're committed to staying in Reykjavic and only venturing out for a day. This guide has the highlights and agenda to do it all along the Southern Coast in just 3-4 days. (I recommend renting a Tesla and using the superchargers along the way to save time.) Maximize your time by seeing all of the South Coast plus a "secret" island where they have re-homed Beluga Whales. Highly recommend going all the way to Jökulsárlón, which was THE surprising highlight of my trip.
