Iceland has to be one of the most surreal travel destinations on earth, but what should you do when you visit to make the most of your time in this beautiful yet expensive destination? In this guide, I'll share all my favorite places, restaurants, hidden hot springs, and travel experiences from the "Land of Fire and Ice."

After having lived in Iceland for more than 1 year, I want to share with you my best tips based on my experience for travelling around one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen and that I like to call home. I’m also sharing special places and not only the most popular ones. What to consider before reading: • Personally, I believe that the most enjoyable way to travel around Iceland is by Campervan • The most important thing to pack is different layers of clothes, no matter what season you are in • Bare in mind that it's illegal to camp outside campings in Iceland (this is under your own responsibility) and this guide is not focusing on camping sites. • Be aware of the fast changing and though Icelandic weather. • Bring eye mask to sleep (there's almost no darkness during the Midnight Sun). • Feel free to modify the starting point of the road trip (either starting from the South or the West) according to the weather forecast (although it can be unpredictible). • I would not recommend taking detours that I suggest along the blog if weather conditions are not good. • Note that the maximum speed limit in Iceland is 90 km/h in main roads, make sure you don't overpass the limit. Traffic fines are very expensive in Iceland, you don't want to pay one! And be careful with sheep! They are constantly crossing the road. Iceland is an incredible country, its dramatic landscapes and tourist infrastructure make it a must visit destination with appeal for all ages. I coordinated and lead an adventure tour here recently and it is honestly one of the most beautiful and magical destinations I have ever been to. In this guide I share my top recommendations for Icelandic accommodation, divided into budget categories. If you only have a few days and aren't planning to move around much further than the golden circle, or if you won't have access to your own car, my advice would be to stay in Reykjavik for most of your nights and do day trip tours with a stay somewhere special out in the countryside for 1 or 2 nights as a treat. Iceland doesn't have good public transport links outside of the capital so you really have two options, book onto a tour or it's one of the best places to do a self drive adventure. (If you're planning for Winter, don't let the ice worry you- opt for an SUV and contact the rental place in advance to ask for studs on your tyres)
